i wish i could say YES but unfortunately, this recording is lacking in dynamics.
i simple way to tell if something sounds good on a rock recording, especially with a band like the Deftones, do the quieted/hushed/ethereal verses sound quieter than the choruses? do the screamed vocals jump out more dynamically than the rest of the vocals? not from what i can hear.
regardless, the music is pretty good.
the producer and engineers did a poor job.
the instruments sound well-mic'd and clear and crisp, like you mention, and the album is well mixed, but just lacking in dynamic range which can kill the life of any recording.
Agreed,
The Deftones have been around long enough to know the difference between good vs. poor sound.
