Art seems to seek out specialized niches - and then explore niches inside those.  I like DIY stuff but talking about the minutia of grommets on ancient stuff i'll never care about leaves me behind.

Pay attention.  You might learn something.  I did.

What is it with Dudley Haters? ("I just had to write in... I was sooooo upset! Grumble. Grumble.")

I disagreed with AD for years in Listener magazine, but it was a great magazine!  Loved that damn rag.

But Lou Reed, man?  (That was the one time I think Art was a hater.)

(I'm getting you Metal Machine Music for Xmas- on 8 Track.)

I don't mind a tour through audio history, and I like looking at displays of old components and listening to them when possible. But the details of grommets, ball bearings, making a plinth etc.--this is shop class, not a history lesson. IMO it doesn't belong in Stereophile. And I see there is more of the same in the January issue.

DIY good, but a 3-part series on the washers and grommets of just one model of one obscure TT - it's a dead end.

Yesterday I watched a DIY show on TV on old hot rods and they showed SEVERAL upgrades/renovations in sufficient detail, on 3 different cars, in 30 minutes.  And it was not on the analogue (ha!) to a RekOKut, it was on things that enthusiasts actually seek and use - old Camaros and such.  I liked it.  If had been a series of 3 shows entirely on the left rear wheel bearings of 1939 Citroen, I (and no one else) would have watched.

I ain't a Dudley "hater" by any means but if I see a friend wandering lost down a path, I'll call him back.

Sounds like back-peddling to me.

Your language is inconsiderate and petty.

I love ALL of the great tweaks that Art brings to mind every month, and again, even as far back as Listener.

Making a great stylus brush with an artists brush is something I still use today, and it is very inexpensive.

I see value, but perhaps you do not.

What I find suspect, is your inability to recognize others' interest in these areas, and the assumption that it is a waste, because it holds no value to you.

That's your perspective, but your language seems to rule out other positions.

That ain't cool.
