I still have a Yamaha CDC-745 player in my system, and it works fine. The sound quality is OK, but not quite up to todays standards, so I use a Theta D/A converter connected to its coaxial digital output to process the signal.

These CDC units seem to last forever and might be a good bet; the price is right. I don't think the NAD changers have a good reliability record.

What I would suggest, however, is that you go to Amazon and get a new Sony 5-disc carousel player.

They have one that lists for $300 and it is only $130 right now. It will sound better, I think, because the DAC chips have really advanced since 20 years ago. It is also new and has a warranty.

They also have a Teac 2610 carousel for only $105.

Hello I'm seeking advice on options for a "new to me" (i.e. used) CD changer. I'm looking at a few options: NAD 515 5-disc changer for $150 (seems way too much $$); NAD 523 changer for $100; Denon DCM-440 for $65; Yamaha CDC-645 for $65; or Yamaha CDC-502 for $55. I know these are all getting long in the tooth, but I'm not looking to drop a bundle here. What do folks think is the best value of these options? Would one stand out that much more if the price were lower? I have a NAD 712 receiver so I like the idea of the NAD units, but I'm not entrenched on that option in the least. Thanks in advance for your thoughts. -draiddil

Thanks, Commsysman.  I'll check out those deals.  You're quite right; we have seen one or two advancements in the last two decades...
