FYI ... This classic model has become one of the most $$ and in-demand headphones in the pantheon. I'm glad I got mine when it still retailed for $600. (lately, I've seen them for as high as $3500)
What may have led to its renaissance is improvement (evolution) of amplification equipment. The newer, better amps REALLY seem to bring the HP-1 into its own...even when compared directly to top-line Sennheiser HD800, Beyer T1 and Hifiman & Audeze planar models.
