OK, so ive decided on this setup but am still unsure of what speakers to go with.

1) Pro-ject Debut Carbon

2) The Musical Fidelity V-LPS phono preamp

3) The Music Hall A15.2 integrated amplifier

I dont know weather to go with bookshelf or floorstand speakers, what is the main point of difference?

Cheers

a better quality speaker with bookshelves, usually at the expense of low frequency extension.

What's lower frequency extension? (In simple terms haha) I tried google but couldn't understand.

Is there any particular ones you would reccomend with my setup?

Cheers mate

It's bass. The more or greater the low frequency extension the better the bass. All things considered floor standers and or larger woofers usually mean greater low frequency extension. ie: better bass.

Ok bookshelves it is then!

The Acoustic Sierra -1's sound amazing from all the reviews etc, $800 is a little more than i was hoping for however. Do you think something like the Bowers & Wilkins 685 or Monitor Audio Bronze BX-2 speakers would go well with the setup or would it be worth spending the extra for the Acoustic Sierra's? Im sure the speakers are probabally one of the main things to invest in, in terms of sounds quality so if cheapnig out here will affect the sound alot then i guess ill have to fork out. Im just worried because of all the shipping costs ill have to pay as well, im not sure were i should source them from the because the hi-fi stores around my area are about $200+ extra on the prices i see online, for example the B&W's are $871 at a shop in my city. Im not sure if you guys know of any other online options that would work out cheaper for me but would love it if you did!

Also i was wondering in terms of getting everything setup properly what other smaller bits and pieces will i need? Im guessing ill need speaker wires and cables and stuff like that maybe a tracking guage? not really sure about this stuff.

Thanks again in advance for your help!

Ohh also forgot to ask, would the Magnepan MMGs be too big for a room around 10feet x 12feet in size? Or are they not going to work as well as bookshelves with the room size/ type of music

Do they have the same 30 day return policy down under? If so give them a try.

Seems i cant find anywere that stocks the Magnepan MMGs localy so might go with the Monitor Audio Bronze BX-2's. There is a shop near me that stocks them so i will go have a listen and see if i like them.

Also wanted to ask, seeing as the Music Hall A15.2 has integrated amp, will also using the Musical Fidelity V-LPS make enough of a difference in sound to justify paying the extra to get it as well?

Cheers

Most dealers here in the US don't stock MMG's either. Usually they are factory direct. I don't know how that works in Australia.

No matter what, going to listen to some candidates is the only way to make an informed purchase.

Have yet another question regarding wattage of amp/ speakers. Hypothetically if i had the Music Hall 15.2 Integrated amp which is 2 x75watt and paired it with something more upmarket say Jas Audio Orior Bookshelf speakers which are 150watt would they be compatible or would it not work? What part of the specifications should i look at to determine this etc?

Jas Orior

Sepcifications:

Power Output: 150W
Frequency Response: 29Hz - 60kHz
Nominal Impedance: 8 ohm
Sensitivity: 88dB/1W/1M
Dimensions: 250(W) x 405(H) x 410(D)
Weight: 52lbs (each)

Wattage ratings for speakers are just about worthless and useless. What's actually important is the sensitivity expressed in dB's referenced to 1 Watt @ 1 meter. The higher the number the less power needed for a given volume level.

All things being equal more power is almost always better.

The speakers you're asking about would work. The real questions are, have you heard them and do you like them?

IMO buying speakers based on reviews and not actually hearing them first is like letting someone else choose your mail order bride. it's the quickest easiest way to end up with something you don't like.
