produce bit and sampling rates of 16-bit and 44.1 or 48 kHz, including the Pro-ject. If you want to capture your vinyl at higher resolution you will have to spend more. Many people prefer 24-bit for vinyl conversion. 16-bit, 48kHz will work and sound decent, but if you want to do your vinyl justice in the digital realm you might want a ADC which does 24-bit, 96kHz.
Thanks. Pretty much all of the music in my collection is 16/44.1 and I would most likely be happy with that.
24-bit would be nice, but I'm assuming those units are pretty pricey?
The idea though is that you are mastering a digital file from the vinyl original. They can then be downsampled to 16-bit, 44.1kHz for file size reduction and playback. They will sound better captured this way rather than just capturing at 16-bit, 44.1kHz.
but, really, if I want the full vinyl experience then I'll probably just listen to the vinyl directly. It'd be nice to have a relatively good recording on my computer/phone when the vinyl itself isn't available.
I'm just dipping my toe in the water, so I don't mind getting a 16/44.1 unit as long as the preamp in it doesn't sound like complete crap.
The MAIN thing I'm looking for in going vinyl is to avoid the loudness war happening right now. The compression kills me...

I bought this unit so I could record to my computer. Warning to all. 1. Many new Home Theater receivers don't have a phono input. 2.Installed Windows 7 on a XP machine.Lost 90% of my sound card features,number one is inputs.
This unit gives you a phono input and rca for line level. Also use for guitar line level from a Line 6 Pod 2.0.
Here is the way I use to record vinyl...I have a older receiver that I ran a adapter " 2 rca to one stereo 3.5mm jack" into my computer input.Used Sound Forge 5.0 Wave editor and made great recording...Windows 7 would not load my $400.00 Sound Forge.Also midi is not supported .I now use the free Lame Wave recorder .
So I bough the Art unit and can record into the computer again. **If you have a high end magnetic phono cartige as I, the results is dispointing. I have not recorded yet. However did hook it to my new Dennon receiver for it to act as a per amp. Not good.
Did plug my headphones in and have been playing with the gain seems to be better.But the punch and real sound of instruments is not their.
Don't lose site this is a good interface when I have no other way to get into the computer.Quite. Before I copy a record will take the old receiver and plug it into the line level of the ART and see if I get that great vinyl sound. At this stage money is an issue. If somthing is wrong with my old receiver, will use the ART Phono section to transfer those oldies. By the way my records still look like the day I bought them.No issue their.
