If you could go a third more the LSA1 Standard is really good.

These are some great speakers. Pair them with a sub and you're set.
I'd recommend going for some bigger speakers with 1000 though.
Most bookshelf speakers do not have large enough drivers to produce the power wanted for that kind of music.
One that is exceptional, however, is the Monitor Audio Silver RX-2, which you can get for either $850 or $1000, depending
on the exterior finish you choose. I would recommend them. They have a high-performance 8-inch driver, which is much better
than the typical 6-inch driver in most bookshelf speakers.
To get an equivalent speaker from B & W, I think you will have to spend nearly twice as much money.

The Monitor Audio's sound strong, in my price range and with big sound. I'm going to seriously consider the B&W's and Sierras though as well. Hopefully some dealers in town will let me take them for a spin.
I will probably have to spring for sub too, I'm thinking. Any suggestions on that?

I auditioned a bunch of speakers, and was convinced by the end of it that I should go for some floorstanding speakers within my price range of $1,000.
I tried:
-Sierra 1 bookshelfs (with and without a Rythmik sub)
-Whardale Diamond 10.5 Floorstanding
-Dali Zensor 5 Floorstanding
-Dali Bookshelves (similar not sure of the exact model)
-Bowers & Wilkin Bookshelf and Floorstanding models
-Sonus Faber (not sure which model, but they were about $2,500 for the pair)
I didn't get to try:
-Monitor Audio Silver RX-2
-LSA 1 Standards
(couldn't find anyone who had these in stock for audition)
And the winner was... The Whardale Diamond 10.5s. I played Napalm Death's "Mentally Murdered" on all these speakers and these just blasted like no other.
The best bookshelfs I heard were by far the Sierra's, which can hold their own and packed a mean punch, and were even better with the sub. It was a hard choice between the Whardales and the Sierra's, but at the end of the day I didn't want to spend the extra cheddar on the sub right now, and the Whardale's delivered a brutal value for $900. They're certified badass for extreme metal, prog, krautrock, punk and just about everything else I've thrown at them so far.
