Pioneer SP-FS52 fr $260/pair. Real overachievers.

Here is a review of bookshelf speakers from the predecessor series. http://www.stereophile.com/content/pioneer-sp-bs41-lr-loudspeaker

If you want to stay as cheap as possible and get some fairly decent sound quality, the Polk Monitor 40 speakers are hard to beat. You should be able to get a pair from Amazon, or other retailers, for well under $200.

Hi, I just came across this site last night. I am a complete newbie concerning hi-end stereo equipment. All I know is that I am tired of listening to music on small tin-y sounding stereos. It was really fascinating to read about all of these technologies that I didn't know anything about. Anyway, I recently picked up a used Harman Kardon 3485 receiver for $120. I was looking for recommendations for speakers to go with it. I am on a really tight budget. (I sold all my furniture last year to do some traveling, and I am about to move into an apartment and also need things like a bed, maybe a dresser...) So maybe I'm also looking for a recommendation for somewhere on the internet to find quality used speakers for a good price. Thanks so much for your help.
