Vinylpalooza

If piles upon piles of LPs bring you joy, and you’re within striking distance of Pittsburgh, Pa. this weekend, you need to head for the Pittsburgh Irish Centre on Forward Avenue to check out the first annual Vinylpalooza sponsored by Jerry’s Records. Jerry will lay out over 50,000 records (LPs, 45s and 78s)from all genres, as well as a diggers paradise of dollar records, a mass of soul/funk 45’s, a bunch of sealed warehouse finds and intriguingly, over 5,000 punk/indie rock singles that he says he’s had in a warehouse for the past eight years.

Boyz From The Burgh: Jerry humors yet another Stereophile record rube.

For those who haven’t had the pleasure, Jerry’s Records in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood of the `Burgh is one of the world’s (yes, the world’s) largest and most varied mountains of vinyl I’ve ever seen. Standing on a platform/check out counter stacked with records, gazing out across the bins, this affable, knowledgeable man presides over an inestimable mass of vinyl of all types, a portion of which will be laid out at the Irish Centre. He does not deal in CDs at all and for the most part, his prices are reasonable. Other record dealers have also been invited to this event. Various DJ’s will be spinning all day. And there will be the usual smattering of posters, laser discs, DVDs, cassettes, etc. Best of all, if you are looking for something specific and don’t see it, Jerry probably has four copies somewhere—just ask. Jerry’s store draws LP collectors from all over the U.S. so this oughta be fun just for the energy alone.
