When presented with less than optimal speaker placement one should try to get loudspeakers known to be less sensitive to placement. There is discussion about those products across the Internet audio forums. It is really not a matter of standmount or floorstand, it is a matter of speaker design regarding its acoustic interaction with its environment.

Thank you for your response.  Do you have suggestions as to speaker brands?  Would these be front ported such as Paradigm Studio 60s?

the Salk Songtower loudspeakers are known to be relatively forgiving of placement, and they sound wonderful.

What are your other components?

Nothing but the TV at this point.  Starting fresh!  Getting audio out of the TV is proving to be a bit of a challenge.  The Panasonic has digital audio out only.  So, I guess I am either looking at an Home Theatre Receiver or an integrated amp with some type of DAC.  I currenlty stream Netlfix and Amazon from the TV, so that would be the main use.  Other than that, I watch very little TV (via cable box), and also watch a movie or so per week. I estimate my use to be 60% music, 40% TV/Movies.  Since my intention is to stick with a 2 or 2.1 stetup rather than surround sound, I assumed I would be wasting money with a HT receiver.  My plan was to first select speakers, then int amp, then BluRay and possibly DAC.  Initially I was hoping to be in the $2500 - $3000 range.

I appreciate your feedback.
