I'd like to add: I listen to movies, mainly drama and music (classic rock, electronic, hiphop, classical)
And I have some nice filled steel stands, 75.00, you'll need them.

Pioneer SP-BS41-LR $150/pair A real overachiever designed by Andrew Jones. http://www.stereophile.com/content/pioneer-sp-bs41-lr-loudspeaker
Or forget about putting speakers on stands and just get the SP-BS41-LR's big brother the SP-BS51-LR for $200/pair. http://myblog-online.co.uk/2011/03/review-pioneer-sp-fs51-lr-floorstanding-speakers/ Sounds like they would be a good fit for your application.
floorstanding and tower speakers are fine too, if i can get a bit more "fill" in the room, i'm willing ot sacrifice a bit of quality
aren't those pioneer towers 6 ohms? will they work?
No problems with a 6 Ohm load.
Check these out on Amazon for $250:
