amp for passive sub

I have a DIY sub-woofer that used to have the Parts Express 1000 watt plate amp. After it blew out for the 2nd time, and I decided to never again purchse cheap Chinese made products, I obtained an old stereo receiver from a thrift shop that now provides an awesome 20 watts.

Actually I find the mere 20 watts more than adequate for my musical listening needs, but it comes up short for DVD epics. Would I be able to get adequate results by running the LFE directly from the AV receiver to the amp, and use the limited LFE volume control of the receiver to modulate bass volume?

You would be better off getting a cheap pro audio

amp that can be bridged. Farting around with an old stereo receiver for a subwoofer amp setup is a bit silly to me. But that's just me. Also be sure to seal up the hole if you remove the plate amp.
