Thank you for responding... I forgot to mention in my post that this system is for

headphones only. ( I live in an apartment and work nights as well ). Although I'd love

to be able to explore the idea of customizing a room, it just isn't an option for me.

I'm kind of bummed about that cause I'd love to crank the volume once in awhile!

equalizer. You have a right and left channel, yeah?

However, you will have an impedence and gain mismatch with the unbalanced RCA inputs and outputs of the HK3490 and the balanced 1/4" TRS or XLR ins/outs of the Rane EQ, which while it will work just using TRS or XLR or RCA adapters, it will lose a lot of signal and it is far from optimal. The Rane EQ is made for pro audio applications and does not accommodate home hifi equipment very well. You would need a pair of these http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/MCM-CUSTOM-AUDIO-555-8485-/555-8485 or something similar to convert unbalanced to balanced to go from the HK3490 to the Rane and balanced to unbalanced back from the Rane to the HK3490 in the tape loop.

Perhaps an ART 341 or an Audiosource EQ200 which have RCA unbalanced inputs and outputs?

This is great help, thanks a lot! It looks like the Audiosource could be hooked up with the least amount of trouble, and the ART 341 is sold at Long & McQuade which happens to be a short drive away.....so I could hassle them about this too! lol.

Your advice about the impedence/gain problem led me to a Rolls device (here's a link to where I found it)

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/217366-REG/Rolls_MB15B_MB15b_Promatch_2_Way_Stereo.html

Am I right that this would not only correct the levels but also split the channel too?

It looks like you could go both ways at once with that unit to convert unbalanced to balanced to go from the HK3490 to the Rolls MB15, connected to the intervening balanced EQ unit, and balanced to unbalanced back from the Rolls MB15 to the HK3490 in the tape loop..

This didn't seem to be a popular thread with the forum, but I'm greatful you decided to pitch in and I think your advice has helped a lot. The art 341 you suggested seems like a good option, and the store might let me try it out first too...

Anyways, I'll post back after the smoke clears and ask you about room treatments...

LOL.
