I should have said, listening space 20' x 15', hard floor. Would prefer towers, unless someone suggests otherwise...
dealers to see what I like. No one can tell you what will sound good to you. This strategy may not be real fair to the dealer, but perhaps they can give you a deal on something you like so you don't drift back to the Gon.
The Dynaudio Audience 72 is a rather power hungry loudspeaker presenting a 4 Ohm load and low sensitivity. You might want to find something that would be an easier load for your tube amp.
Hi Rupert:
Stereophile and The Absolute Sound went GAGA over the PSB Image T6 Tower speakers, which you can buy new at Audio Advisor for $1298.
The Absolute Sound even featured them as the speaker they chose for their recommended system at $3000 or so.
I have had them for a year now, and they sound absolutely wonderful in my system at my second home. I have the $4500 Vandersteen 3A at my big house, and these T6 sound good enough that I am not even tempted to upgrade; good stuff!
If you want something that is smaller physically or a bit less expensive, the T5 is almost as good for $1000; just a tad less bass extension.
THe Dynaudio 72, by the way, is not very efficient; 86 db/w. That might be a problem with the amount of amplifier power you have. I would recommend that you try to get something that is 89db/w or higher (each 3db lower means you need twice the power for the same sound level).
A friend of mine had the Dynaudio 72 for a couple of years, and he said he got rid of them because they sounded too bright, but I think the brightness was not the speakers, but was caused by his crummy amplifier. I would say, however, that those speakers do not put out much bass.
This speaker is very good with tube amplification.

I ended up buying a set of used Zu Druid MkIV and I'm very very happy with them. My system sounds "alive".
enjoy!
