bookshelf speakers under $1000 and have yet to come up with one that has treated paper mid-bass/woofers.  Treated paper drivers are used extensively in subwoofer applications, but most manufacturers it seems look to other materials such as polypropolyene, kevlar, aluminum, carbon, etc. for mid-bass drivers in their bookshelf models.  I'm sure there are others here who know of some good bookshelves with paper cones.

I'm not sure your devotion to paper cones?  The best qualities of paper have been achieved and surpassed in my opinion in that price range by Focal with their "sandwich" cone technology.  Most plastic cone speakers have long lost the "plastic" sound.

Why exactly are you so insistant on paper cones?

How about an old Advent. You can get them for about $100 in VGC.  They have a very nice midrange and treble but the bass is very flat.  Great with old Pioneer amps.

If your passion is paper cone drivers, then you may possibly be able to aquire an old pair of JBL's. Thier 'L' series utilize paper cone drivers that are treated with a material called Aquaplas. I really liked my old JBL's. The only draw back was the foam surrounds that seem to dry rot pretty quick in my estimation. The good thing is - Orange County speaker repair carries 99% of JBL's drivers and surrounds if needed. 25 bucks for a pair of foam surrounds w/gaskets.

Good luck!
