Always nice to hear about how a new audiophile got started . What I find most interesting is how your dad impacted your direction in audio .
Consider yourself very lucky to have such a person in your life . My dad was against audio and anything that took money , whenever I bought or built something for my little hifi he would tell me I needed my head examined .
Regards Tim
I enjoyed your post. As it would have been my Dad's birthday today so I thought I would say that I got my grounding in audio in a similar way. My father built aDynakit PAS -2 preamp and Stereo 70 amplifier in the late 1950s. To these he mated a Rec-o-Kut table and arm, a Sherwood tuner and Viking tape deck. All of this was built into a custom Maple cabinet. The speakers were a Klipshorn and a custom made huge box speaker for the other side. I thought it was fantastic. I wish I still had some of that equipment as you do, I did manage to save his favorite album and have recollected some of the great albums I remember him playing when I was a boy. I don't build anything now, but have a system that I enjoy.
Thanks again for the great rememberance.
Tom
I enjoyed that postie, thanks
I remember the Grace 707 and F9e...hmmm what memories
I got into it at 17 (now 40.. *Cough* ...something... *cough*) as a filthy, sly, dispicable backdoor method of getting into Broadcast/Music industry.
I knew the front door was never going to be open; Me having as much celebrity and talent as the smelly end of a rotting wilderbeast corpse that ran out of something to hydrate itself in the Sahara. So fame an fortune didnt look promising - so...graduated my ass in electronics and built stuff instead.
I'm glad to see a fellow Pink Floyd fan, w00t
