If that's real wood they are very nice looking. Other than that I have no knowledge. Welcome to the forum!
BTW: I would take reviews from Audio Review with a large grain of salt. People who buy a product and write a review for AR are usually very enthusiastic and not very informative.
I'm from the school that says you can't ever have enough power. I have +2KW pushing a pair of esl's and two sub woofers.
Thanks for the welcome!
I hear you about Audio Review enthusiasm...but I've scrounged the internet for references to these guys, and everything I come across suggests that these are remarkable sounding little speakers, at least in the mid to higher ranges (they drop off around 55 Hz). And yes, it is real wood...from what I've read it seems like Monitor Audio was once known for their cabinets. I just caught the pair in good condition for 400 bucks...considering they retailed for 1200 I figured it was a good investment.
Since the speakers are so small I'd really like to get a relatively compact amp to power them...I hear you about the power, but I don't know if I necessarily belong to that school. I heard a wonderful little system yesterday powered by a little 10 watt tube amp. But I'm no audiophile, so what do I know.
Audio Monitor rates the Studio 2's sensitivity at 89...but it looks like it's closer to around 84-85. Can I get a smaller amp (not necessarily tiny, but no 50 pound monsters) to power these guys? I'd really like to invest in a tube amp if possible...do you a 15-20 watt tube would be enough to play well at medium levels? Keep in mind, I'm not blaring my system here...it'll be in a small bedroom area.
I was thinking about this guy:

Thanks in advance for any advice. I'll make sure to do a little write-up on them when they arrive.
EDIT: Just got your message in the other thread...I see now that this is not nearly enough power. Thanks!
I had them for over 20years now and for the 3rd time I'm replacing a woofer. I like them very much, I have lot of speakers, but these are still among my favorites for a small bookshelf size speaker. I use them as monitors on my DJ booth in my studio. They have to work very hard and never let me down.
Just came across this post because I was looking for some details while ordering my replacement part.
