Tube amp- how can you tell if 4 or 8 ohms- higher volume? (with and without sub amp)

If your speaker dips below 4ohm than the 4 ohm tap will likely work best . Don't worry about the loudness level , which ever sounds best is the way to go .

Your second question makes me think your running the sub from it's high level input , it is not usually recommended with tube amps , do you have a low level input on your sub ? if you do try it , the system should sound better that way .

Thanks for the response

Why doesn't the level matter? Doesn't that indicate a better match/energy transfer?

As for sounding better the 4 ohm tap drops the high end a bit.  But that isn't where the 3ohm dip is.  Wouldn't I really only hear a difference the more the specific dip freq is used? Given that if it's not in the critical range then doesn't power transfer ease become paramount?

Why is the speaker level connection an issue? This input on the sub amp is a high impedence. In parallel it actually rasies the total a bit closer or over 8 ohms - isn't that good for a tube amp.  Interestingly enough AMC told me to run the speakers full range with the speaker level sub tap. The amp sees my Triangle Celius full range and the sub input in parallel.  Given the sub amp has a higher impedance and draws no current because it is only a coupling input I figured the slightly net higher imp would be good or at least not a bad thing?
