I bought it during the Christmas sale (15% off) and was also blown away by how good it sounds...Be advised, they have released 3 updates in the last month. If you are not running 1.7.2, you are not running the latest version. The update function in the program is not activated yet so you have to check it...
Under what circumstances and setup do you two feel it improves quality? Haven't tried it, so I'm curious as to the "why" it would improve things.
I was under the impression it's one mainly convenience, so that you didn't have to go back to Audio Midi, edit settings, re-launch iTunes.
I have it rigged for upsampling to 24/96, use memory mode and like it a lot. I find it also plays 24/96 HiRez files very well and it is vastly more reliable and easy to use than Media Monkey which I have set up on a PC based system.
I use it with my MAC Mini music server.
I also use the upsampling option (to 24/96) and memory play. The Channel D documentation says that there is a significant difference computer "software" upsampling vs. upsampling in "chip" software. I was doing A/B tests over the weekend. I found that the upsampling option always sounded better on 16/44 AIFF lossless files in my setup.
When you start up the PureMusic software, it also brings up iTunes, so you still manage your music with iTunes.
It also automatically adjusts for the sampling rate of the files you are listening to, vs. updating the MIDI settings on the MAC.
How do you play flac files using the Mac Mini. I've been considering getting a Dell Zino but can't decide which media player to use that will allow me to access all my MP3 and loss less AND most importantly the flac files I plan on acquiring. Any thoughts? Also I want to buy a DAC under 1k... suggestions?
J River media player. You can play flac hires files out of the box and it is a powerful player that can take charge or your PC and show it who is boss. I have also found it easy to use in terms of looking up album art and getting all the genres right. I bought it about three months ago and am still a very happy user.

Let me know when J River works on OSX. It is a Windows only app. A good one but only for M$Windows. So if you have a Mac Mini and don't want to run Boot Camp or a virtuization program it won't work for you. Of course PM won't work on Windows either.
