I can see now that I will be having dreams of those Gorgeous Swiss made Goldmund Telos 2500 monos. Unfortunately, they will have to remain in my dreams.
If I win the Florida lottery or better yet, get on a roll at the dice table in Biloxi, Ms.. I could make alot of my audio dreams come true.

Re: World's 32 most expensive power amplifiers
those prices are fucking ridiculous.
if I had that much money and found myself veering towards that precipice, id rather have a brain transplant so I could get some common sense. theres nothing in ANY of those designs that warrants those prices. nothing other than the fact that some douchebag with more money than sense wants to have "the best" (mind you some of those things measure ....not so well) idiots!

Teddy Ray,
I've heard the Lamm ML 3s driving Wilson X-2 Alexandrias
and they are FANTASTIC.
Additionally, frequency measurements aren't everything.
They don't tell you about the temporal response.
Frequency and time are conjugate variables in
Fourier Transform space. The same mathematics
that gives us the Heisenberg uncertainty principle
also says that frequency response can't tell you
everything about temporal response.

Most Expensive Amps
I'll bet that in blind hearing tests, these expensive amps wouldn't get any more votes than some excellent amps priced around $1000. Small volumes are the main cause of high prices. For example if you spend $50K on Design, $100K on circuit design, $50K on tooling, $50K on regulatory and documentation, $50K on advertising you have invested $300K. If you only sell 100 of these then each unit will have $3000 of fixed development in the price. But if you plan to sell 5000 amps then the figure drops to $60. Similar differences exist in the manufacturing process. The cost for 50 really cool gold knobs might be $50 apiece, as compared to 50 cents for 5000 chrome plated plastic ones. The secondary driver of high prices is "strategic ego". Even if you can sell an amp and make a profit for $10,000 you strategically price it at $20,000 or more as a play on someones ego. You see, some rich people who are insecure want to brag about how much they paid, not realizing how little proportional value they received and how much of a sucker they are. That extra $19,000 could have generated much more satisfaction being donated to a worhty cause. This same argument applies to other goods such as a $2.5 million Bentley compared to a $100K Mercedes.

...could it possibly be that wealthy audiophiles that can afford artisian audio just simply love beautiful sounding, and beautifully designed audio equipment which in turn is just another way of enjoying the fruits of their labor?

RE: the rich enjoying the fruits... OK I shouldn't put them all in that category. I forgot to mention a benefit of their spending. We get to buy this stuff at drastically reduced prices in the used market. Discounts of 90% might actually reflect a realistic value.
