Ayre's Charlie Hansen told me at the RMAF in October that Ayre would not be doing an S/PDIF-input DAC.

Of the new crop of DACs, Sam Tellig highly recommends the Musical Fidelity M1 DAC ($695).

Thanks John. I ended up buying the Ayre. Its terrific. I compared it with the new Moon DAC (cheaper one) and it definitely sounded better though the Moon was pretty good too.
