I've been impressed by these speakers when I've heard them in show environments, and I know many other people who are very happy with their A2s.
A very good review indeed. I am going to try them tomorrow but do you have other recommendations too? Also, these speakers already exist some years, is the technology still up to date? And is there really that little progress in the speaker industry? There is also almost no competition.

I have the AudioEngine 2's and am very very pleased. Better sound than I bargained for, I recommend them. Also got the Audioengine 5's for a family member, also recommended. Larger, so more bass. But the 2's have better bass than I could have imagined for the size. If you want. you can also get their subwoofer to pair w/ the 2's.
I think after I listened to them today, I'll buy them right away. The reason I'm looking for this kind of speakers is because I do not want a subwoofer.
My desk is made out of wood (oak), can I just put the speakers on the desk or should I put something below them? And at what distance from me, where I sit, should they be positioned?
Last question, are they magnetically shielded (no intereference from mobile phones or other devices)?
You can just put the speakers on the desk, no problem. They have a rubber mat on the bottoms so they don't vibrate or slide around. AudioEngine even sells a set of rubber wedges, to set them on and to aim them slightly upward. $29 for rubber wedges a little bit silly, but hey it's a free country.
They are video shielded. I haven't noticed any interference from cell phones or other device.
Set them up in approximately an equilateral triangle, with you being one point.

I just received my A2's and I have a little question about installing them, concerning connecting the speaker wire. I should put the stripped portion of the wire into the binding post but when I do that, then a part of the stripped wire comes out at the other end. Should I fold the stripped portion so that the end touches the part just before it and that it doesn't come out of the binding post?
Also, should I let them stand for a while on the desk first, just like with LCD tv's? So that the get "acclimatized"?
Are there other things I should do?

No worries, stick the wire in and then tighten down the nut. Fine to fold the end around the post after it comes through but it really doesn't matter.

No, they're ready to go, start playing music and enjoy.

Just dig them. They will break in naturally by playing music through them. So they will sound a bit better in a week or two or three.
Oh, I find that setting their volume control no higher than !:00 avoids distortion.
