Some of the really thin LCD displays look interesting. I would not take kindly to giving up video performance to get thin.
Another Consumer Electronics Show has come and gone. Was there anything at CES that got you excited this year?
I remember a couple of over-$20k CD players. I find it bizarre to be pushing the envelope of CD playback, which seems doomed anyway in the light of cheap hard disk space, hi-rez music downloads, and wireless networks. I also remember seeing another best-speaker-on-earth-period, which did not seem very impressive, as well as some kind of potato-masher speaker from another maker.
With very few exceptions, I feel that the vendors participating in this show did a poor job of applying technology to fit the needs of the audiophile market. Flashy new CD players listing for $20,000+—come on! There have been many responses to the questions on the future of the audio market in this Vote! thread, but I've never seen a statement from any reader asking for a better CD player.
