U2: Joshua Tree. Not the biggest U2 fan, but this album is epic. I can think of very few albums (if any) that are as consistently flawless.

Talking Heads' More Songs About Buildings and Food. As a sixties fanatic, I was tempted to name something obvious like Revolver. This one has the same quality of every track having something special to offer and the unmistakeable sound of a band at the peak of its creative vision. This was only their second album.

Joe Dirt Car by the Bodeans. This band never gets enough credit. Great live album.

Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon

Popular: Al Stewart's Year of the Cat. A marvelous storyteller album, with great acoustic guitar playing, and the lovely sax solo that the album closes with. I have the Mobile Fidelity version, but the standard pressing is pretty decent and not a collector's item. Great for late night listening. Classical: Rimsky Korsakov: Scheherezade (Reiner/CSO, Classic/RCA LSC2446). Sure it's a "warhorse," it even says so on the liner notes. But on a night when you are in a good mood and the power is clean, it doesn't get better than this.

Covenant by Greg Brown. Just a great flow from song to song and the instrumentation and vocals are just about perfect. Sound quality on the recording is excellent. There's one of those bonus secret songs at the very end that purely stinks, but it's not listed among the titles on the album, so I'm allowing for that anomaly.
