Reader "max" says he has a young friend who "wants to try classical music, but does not know where to start." Which single composer would you recommend to introduce someone to classical music? And why?
Why not start with the most gifted, Mozart? If his music does not break the ice with a listener new to classical music, most probably nothing ever will. Hey Stereophile, how about a recap of the composers most listed in this week's vote?
There is no one size that fits all. It all depends on personal preference and taste. Beethoven's lighter ones like the "Moonlight" sonata may be a start. Then graduate to the great Symphony No 5 (Fate knocking at the door&$151;also the first four notes of the theme for the landing at Normandy in WWII)
