Polk lsi 9 is about $900 a pair. Polk lsi 15 is an even better buy for about $650 more. Great speakers.

It is a little hard for me, because pricing in my country is so off the mark with what you guys pay. I'd recommend some B&W DM686s, ProAc Tablettes, Orpheus Aurora 1, MKIII, Whatmough Performance P25, or EPOS M12i. Hey—that's a lot of choice!

Ascend CBE 170se and a Hsu VTF-1 for a total of $809, delivered. A tough combination to beat for the money and a whole lot more

Monitor Audio Silver RS6, B&W 684—maybe a deal can be had for the Triangle Heliade and Epos models that might qualify.

Axiom M22v2 (plus a sub). Even with a sub, under $1000. Great sounding speaker.

Aperion Audio Intimus 5Ts towers, $995/pair. Best speaker I have heard below $10k. I have a 6.1 system with 5 5Ts for SACD/BluRay and they are jaw droopingly good. Equal in clarity to my Martin Logans (Sequel ii) and have a better low end. Huge sound from a small speaker (foot print is about the size of a dvd case). Using a Denon 4308, and ps3.

Does second-hand count? I bought a pair of one year old cherry B&W 705s for under a grand. Well worth it

Vandersteen 1c: a speaker that well outperforms its $1000 price tag and is a great path to the 2ce, considering trade-in credit. Like money in the bank.

Based solely on outstanding reviews about their imaging, dynamic range, and soundstaging, the Magnepan MMGs seem like a real bargain. I've heard their larger stable mates and if those qualities are replicated in their basic models, I'd agree they're a real steal.

Thiel SCS4 Low distortion short coil/long gap, coaxial high quality aluminum driver. Coherent sound with a wide soundstage. Cannot get any better for USD $990.

The Monitor Audio Silver RS-6, though beware of using them with bright electronics or in small, live rooms. It's everything BJR said it is!
