Anew tonearm and a new cartridge.
Who would have guessed? As the CD falls, vinyl rises again. Online readers have probably noticed Stephen Mejias diving deep into the black art this year. What about you? Have you spent any money on your turntable rig (not including records) in the last 12 months?
Well, actually not the 'turntable rig' itself, but a Modwright phono preamp, 120 or so used bluegrasss LPs, and a DH Labs interconnect to link to the pre-amp. I'm very pleased with the results. Oh, and I thought about buying a CD at one point (the thought passed).
This vinyl hype pushed by audio magazines, just like they pushed SACD before that, almost killing the CD, is all about getting newbies to get into vinyl and buy their magazines while long timers have actually got out and stopped listening to vinyl, staring mostly at their turntable while using their CD player instead. This is a commercial trick. They want happy threads to boot thanking them and telling them how great and insightful they are: merci beaucoup!
