Honestly, the only audio clubs I am familiar with are those in Norway. I would certainly entertain the idea of joining such a club if one presented itself.

Sergeant Pepper's is the closest I've gotten, or wish to get to, any kind of audio club.

I'd like to, as it's hard to find people as crazy about this hobby as I am, but inevitably I will become unsatisfied with my system.

My work is all about deadlines and hafta's, the stereo is there to counter all that. So, while I truly enjoy audio talk and would love to hear more systems, my attendance at a local club, if one ever materialized, might be sporadic.

Probably—just to have the chance to hear some different equipment. Listening in stores is not ideal.

I found that I had better equipment than I saw at club meetings. I have decided to listen at home. Also less political wranglings.

It's not a full-fledged club, but a few of the lads get together and go auditioning on weekends.

I love music, and great gear, but get a bunch of guys like that together and ... well, that's the point. A bunch guys talking audio geek talk. That's not all that fun. A couple of friends going out to a club for live music and a drink? Great! Audio gear clubs remind me of math or physics clubs in high school.

I would actually like to, but I'm not sure how it works. I don't have that much room in my listening room (one in sweet spot!). If they met at restaurants, that would be great--but I would think you would take turns at members homes?

No. My hi-fi and music is personal and most for lonely relaxing moments. When I'm with friends with same interest, we socialize by talking, eating, etc. Listening occurs mostly off axis at those moments!

We had a great club , The Western New York Audio Society, based in Buffalo NY. It thrived for several years but eventually disbanded for various reasons. I'd be happy to join a club in the area, should one exist. (jimdandy43@aol.com )

I would be interested, but work and family demands would make it difficult for me, even if I found a club nearby.

You can hear stuff your local dealers don't carry.

I might, but I have a haunting reservation that I can't seem to dismiss. My reservation is that a group of audiophiles assembled in a room may turn out to be as snobbish and obnoxious as as some of the high-end dealers that are portrayed in letters to the editor. If that were so, in some strange way, I would be adversely affected!

Yes, I will be attending one on Sept 22 and can't wait to meet new friends and listen to some great audio gear.

Aren't sci-fi conventions enough?

I have lived in the San Diego area for 10 years now. Before that in Sacramento where the interest in hi-fi as a hobby seemed much greater. Anyone in the San Diego area interested in good hi-fi or stereo as a hobby?

A very unpleasant and un-musical experience I don't ever want to repeat. Changing cables etc halfway through a track and not playing an entire track all evening is my idea of hell. The all male assembly was off-putting as well. No wonder audiophiles are regarded as somewhat mad.

But, I have to drive 100 miles, mostly on Sundays, to attend. This weekend I will drive 250 miles to tour Cary's factory with the club (Carolina Audio Society).

This is useful infromation and a good question.

I began listening with some others over the last year. We are at very different stages of this hobby but it is fun to put a social dimension to it.

If the individuals involved weren't too geeky, or titanic tweekers, I might be interested.

Apparently there is one in Dallas but going there would take time otherwise spent listening to music, skydiving, walking Mack, playing low-stakes poker, cooking, tasting wine, working, or sleeping. Hmmm, less working... I have no time for it and little-to-no interest. None of my friends cares for audiophilia and they are my friends.

I WOULD LIKE TO MEET PEOPLE WITH SAME INTEREST AS MINE. WHEN I TALK HI-FI WITH PEOPLE NOW, THEY HAVE A BLANK LOOK ON THEIR FACE.

A visit to an audio club get-together would be attractive if the people were friendly. The only reason for my visit would be to share in friendship. Otherwise, I would not attend.

Yes. It would be a great way to hear other people's ideas about what sounds good. There are DIY people, budget tweak people, and people with money to burn. The tough thing would be to find a group with a decent blend of audio experience.

Most of my friends are music lovers and I have converted some of them into defacto audiophiles. It is not an official club but we talk shop and new products.

Many years ago I attended one once in the S.F. Bay area. Some (many, most?) of the members were so busy being snotty and arrogant they forgot to notice that there were some (many) people there for the first time. No effort was expended to give the newcomers a sense of welcome. Yes, maybe I would attend a club meeting again ... it has been many, many years since that one event.

I ought to form my own.
