I hate to have to say it but I think it was Takk by Sigur Ros. I know it was the ROTM in Stereophile but man is that one bad piece of music with no direction whatsoever. Great fidelity...but bad, bad, bad music. Can't understand how that made it into Stereophile's ROTM but to each their own I guess...

I really didn't like "Candyshop."

What is even worse than the sewage being pumped out of the music industry is the lengths they are going to trying to convince us that this sewage is actually good. Perhaps a better question is "Who should the industry be championing, but isn't?" I'll nominate Eleni Mandell.

The loser is: the most pompous, slimy, non-singer on the planet, 50 cent.

Just look at any of Pitchfork's best albums of the year list; they're guaranteed to sound like crap!

All of them!

It's a cop-out to answer this by saying "Anything by (fill in the name of an artist you dislike) or by saying "Any (fill in a genre you don't appreciate)." But I think it's important not to take that route this year. The worst recordings of 2005 were any CDs that were functionally crippled by a DRM-scheme that was not apparent until you actually opened the package.

I don't spend enough time listening to bad music to be able to judge. Talk to that guy who runs 'The Annoying Music Show". He'll tell you and probably make you laugh

The "Queen" incarnation with Paul Rogers as front man.

Limiting myself to only those releases that I actually care about and purchased (sorry Britney and Jessica), the worst was a Philips SACD of Gergiev conducting Shostakovich's 5th Symphony, which sounds like it was recorded with stethoscopes instead of microphones. The 9th is also included, and it sounds fine.

Nizlopi - Half these songs are about you. Sounds best crushed under the JCB.

The worst thing I heard this year was the light rock version of "Landslide" by the Dixie Chicks. Limp strings and a robotic drummer were brought in from somewhere, the banjo went missing, and the lovely vocals were turned way down...

Eminem's "Fack." My 16 year old brought home an mp3 of this rotgut, and because I couldn't identify what in the world she was playing, I asked her. The rest is history--and so is that mp3.

Anything with DRM that messes up my computer.
