How old are you?

Reader "craig" writes: "Okay, let's get right to it. What is the age of <I>Stereophile</I>'s readers? The reason I ask is the choice of 'favorite music' in a recent Vote question." So how old are you?

Geologically speaking, I'm quite young.

Been in the hobby since a teen.

I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority age bracket with this poll even with the consideration that the internet has a higher population of the under-thirty crowd. Your "internet poll" may not have the true representative population that you're looking for. Just food for thought...

I will turn 37 on Wednesday. Have been an audiophile since I was 20. How's that for testing your theory??

I'm old enough to remember the ElCaset, the introduction of the compact cassette, a respectable Julian Hirsch, the Stanton 681EEE, the JBL L100 (West Coast Sound), the Teac 4 3340 open-reel, the Beatles, and the Rolling Stones. But I'm not so old to remember a young Elvis or a brand-new Fisher tube amp.

I'm 25 now, and I was infected by the audio bug when I was 17. But I'm the only one I know under 30.

I'm 33, earn $26,000 a year, and own a $17,000 system and an $800 car. You have to know your priorities and your limitations!

If you're familiar with car audio, you know how messed up people are. I've never heard a boommobile that sounded half as good as the factory system. Personally, I'd like the military to devote a few bucks to the ceation of a boom seeking missile. I'd sleep a lot more peacefully with a deterrent in place :)

I'm sure there are a lot of 1-10-year olds browsing your website. Aren't you getting a bit ridiculous?

This is an old fart game. Most young'uns would not be able to afford these.

I'm 9 years old (really!). I listen to my Dad's stereo and help him decide between wires and CD treatments. I have fun testing things. Tubes are cool!

Last year's comment from Mr. D'Agostino concerning the lack of any Generation X audiophiles scared me pretty badly. Not because of the fact that that would make my hobby a lonely one without the benefit of any peers—no, it terrifed me because I'd just bought one of his new receivers at the time (the KAV-300r), and should it need any servicing (God forbid), I then would technically not exist as a customer.

You old farts aren't the only ones having fun.

How old am I? Who's coming up with these questions? - highschool students? Last week you wanted to know what we wear to demo audio equipment! Whats next? Will you want to know if I hang fuzzy dice from my rearview mirror or still listen to those classic Captain & Tonille LPs(I dont by the way). Please bother to ask something pertinent on the subject of HIFI audio or don't bother asking at all.By the way I'm older than 10 but I just couldnt take this survey seriously.

We went thru this on the Phonogram list a few weeks ago and I turned out to be one of the oldest. However, I was suspicious of some who never replied. Secondly, there is a age where "real men don't touch keyboards". So you need to crank in an adjustment for both of those variables.

I wonder what the federal government would do if they knew I spent a chunk of my financial aid on a Sonic Frontiers preamp and other educational necessities.

I'm twenty and recently purchased an MC2000 tube amp (SAC 437 BABY!!!). Does that qualify for membership?

Although I really am a budding audiophile, I feel that I know more than I should already. I pick on audio-ignorant people all the time for the mistakes they make. Hell, my girlfriend owns a pair of Magnepan ribbon speakers that her father passed down to her. I guess I come from a group of teen audiophiles, but what's wrong with that? People say I'm too young to know as much as they do, but I don't care, I just stick to what I like: electronics, synthesizers, high-end audio, designing (but not implementing, due to lack of cash flow) tube amps.

I only know 4 other audiophiles or enthusiast in my 36K hometown. All are between 30-45.Maybe the reason is that we are 50 miles away from the nearest H/E store and the advertising is not the best one.

Been into audio since '70 or '71. Still love it.
