Although since they are from the same master there is probably none to little audible difference.

Oh great..... Now Pauls gut felt bass in "Come together" will now sound boomy with no rythm....Georges melodic in your face guitar riffs in "Octopus's Garden" will sound like he is strumming a canary, while choking it.... Ringo's smack sharp drumming in "Sgt Pepper" will now sound like a cross-eyed child mindlessly tapping on his school desk... John's voice will lose it's emotional plead in "All You Need is Love" and will now sound like my wife when she gives me shit for another audio purchase.

Perhaps this is a blessing in disguise. Here's what I'm thinking:

The remastered mono & stereo versions and the remastered 24bit versions have been available since September 2009 therefore giving plenty of people a chance to hear and become familiar with the sound of these recordings in true CD quality and, in the case of the 24bit version, better than CD quality. Now that they are available on iTunes as lossy compressed files maybe some of the these people familiar with the sound of recent remasters will finally start to realize just how much music they're missing with the lossy files sold on iTunes.

But then again maybe not. Oh well, I can always dream, can't I?

No, I've left my White Album along with a number of private pressing Jazz LP's to a friend in my will. He may sell the White Album if he want's but he's intending to release re-mastered versions of the jazz LP's. The royalties will be his. Given my state of health it won't be long before the world finds out the real price (value?) of this stuff.

I can hear the difference between the cd and hirez versions of the Beatles. But then I have an incredible hifi with a Denon AVR and Infinity Alpha 20 speakers. 8)

Seriously, those files are great sounding, but different from the vinyl. Better? I don't think so. Different and interesting? You betcha.

Elk, I mostly agree with you. But the kids are not like you and I. We buy and rip physical product for the most part. They steal or buy files. That they can legally obtain the Beatles is a good thing I think. But it is not really applicable to people like us on the forum. As I file my records, it is interesting just how many version I have of Revolver. But I digress.

That the wonderful music will sound like excrement is another thing all together.

I, too, have multiple copies of Revolver. LP, CDs, remastered. No MP3s but I do have both the original CD and the remastered on my music server as FLAC.

Ahhh, a fellow traveler! What versions do you have?

I have a Japanese (regular, not the Odeon) and a British import, a mono from somewhere, the MOFI, and the digital and the mono cd.

I really, really like the mono. Mostly because it is fresh to my ears. And it makes the pitch layering they did more noticeable to me. They really took the time to fit the arrangement together, and for some reason, I notice that more on the mono.

But I do miss the count off to Taxman in stereo!

The mono mix is what mattered to the Beatles. Stereo was an afterthought.

I have the new mono remastered as well. Very nice.

Based on that editorial I'd have to say that aside from the great, powerful and all-knowing Steve Jobs just about everybody else in the world is losing a little something with this new deal. In short: another victory for Jobs and Apple and another lose for the rest of us.

Well I am just now buying the USB 24/44.1 version.
HMV Canada has it for 149.99.
A Canadien friend is buying it and sending it down. HMV doesn't do online sales.
Amozon sells it for 262.00 so I'm saving a bundle.
