Did you listen to one, or is it a wall wart anti-fetish?
If I were in the market right now, I'd hit that "A+" or "A" rated Sony....after checking to see when its replacement arrives.
Let us know what you end up getting!
Note that I did repeat the measurements using a high-quality, high-current linear power supply, with no change in the measured problems I found with the wall-wart supply.
We have since received the revised version that Jason Lim mentioned in his "Manufacturer's Comment" - it does measure very much better, even with the wall wart, and Wes has both it and the original version for a sound quality comparison.

I hate wall warts with a passion. I love to destroy them with my special hammer. I bought it on ebay, originally belonged to Klaus Mettalshmaker, Hitler's personal blacksmith.
Seriously, of course I'll give the CDP-8 a listen if I come across it. Just as seriously, it would take some fine sound to convince me I need it. I know my attitude is prejudicial, but I really think NuForce should at least offer a reasonable cost option.
I've been listening to a ton of gear, and when all is said and done I'll let you folks know what I got and why.
Interesting, John. More food for thought. Thanks for the input.
I went through the same search and with the same budget and ended up with the Bryston BCD-1.You can't go wrong.
Even with such a fine player, I was able to extract its full capabilities with extensive tweaking. That was the most fun.
I wouldn't mind a wall wart on the face of my gear if it sounds better.
The only problem I have ever had with wall warts is in the space they take up on that wall or power strip. I liked the old Audio Alchemy approach where they had a real plug, a short cord, and then one encounter the wall wart.
For me, the take away from the review was that it sounded good even with massive amounts of jitter. It really makes me wonder about the audibility of jitter.
I look forward to reading the follow up.
