Could you post a picture? Not that I need gliders, but I'm curious

Here's the page from Herbie's site that contains photos of Gliders and other assorted goodies.

Herbie's Gliders, etc.

Some months ago I posted on a thread about putting Herbies Gliders underneath my speakers. These gliders actually decouple the speakers from the floor rather than couple them.
But I have wood floors on pier and beam built in 1938 and the floors are a little spongy.

The 8 gliders were under 120.00.

The results were actually quite significant. The bass was much tighter, better defined but not overpowering. The mids much clearer and the imaging kinda jawdroppingly improved. I quickly saw I didn't need more bass traps after all.

Well, over on the Slim forums one very astute audiophile(Phil) from England had done much the same with his speakers on wood floors.

But he also uses digital RC and he had to recalibrate because the footers had changed some bass frequencies by as much as 3db.

So here was some objective evidence that this tweak has an effect.

Phil is redoing his floor again so he is going to remeasure with and without the footers to get a more complete idea.

One wonders why objective measurements are really necessary to convince anyone that a tweak is worth the price? How does one correlate measured data with performance and with price? Shouldn't adjectives like "jawdropingly" turn the head of even the most jaded tweakaphobe?

I defy anyone to provide or identify evidence of objective data for the following well-reviewed devices. I have several theories, the effects cannot be measured, the reviewers do not have the time or inclination to measure the devices, the reviewers do not know the method of measurement, or there is not sufficent interest by anyone in measurements. Could it be that everyone's relatively happy with the status quo of subjective reviews except for the tweakaphobes and trolls?

Vibration isolation stands (Ginko, Halcyonics, Silent Running, Minus K, etc.)
Schumann Frequency Generator
Furutech LP Demagnetizer (or the Radio Shack Bulk Tape Eraser)
Silver Rainbow Foil
DH Cones or other exotic footers
Red 'x Coordinate Pen (PWB)
ART Acoustic Resonators
Aftermarket wall outlet plates
Shakti Stone
Acoustic Revive Smokey Quartz Crystal
Mapleshade Ionoclast CD and cable ionizer
Tourmaline Gun from Xtreme AV
Ultra Tweeters (GHz) from Golden Sound
Modified Electric powered Clock (Tice)
Modified battery powered Clock
Quantum Corp. ElectroClear Line Purifier
Intelligent Chip (original)

Simple........"well reviewed" doesn't always mean they know what they are talking about. All of the products you listed SHOULD be measured if the reviewer gives a damn but as we have seen not only on other sites but also here (ART Acoustic Resonators) the powers that be can find a way to weasel out of doing any sort of testing what so ever.
In my opinion most if not all of the listed products fall under the heading of snake oil and aren't worth anyone's time to test much less use.Funny that you would bring up those items since a few of those are also related to what you sell hmmmmm

Just as we shouldn't hold our breath waiting for reviews of tweaks to include objective tests, we shouldn't hold our breath waiting for reviewers to publish the results of their clinical hearing tests, if they've ever had one.

Guys, don't forget that the idea of a measured effect is anathema to some of these people.

Why, if one tweak produces a measurable effect, then that crazy idea might spread! Next thing you know, audiophiles would be expecting that sort of thing! Horrors!

It's like asking for transparent government!

You can see how threatening this would be to some.

Could one of those "some" have a name that begins with a g ?

... So here was some objective evidence that this tweak has an effect. ...

From what you described of your room and floor, it's not surprising to me from an engineering point of view that isolating the speakers from the floor would very likely change the way they sounded - their physical connection to the environment has been changed. One could simulate the vibration transmission of the speaker through the floor with and without the Gliders and show that the speakers act differently in the two situations.

Now suppose you get a heavy sturdy table and put the speakers on that, it should also sound different.

For others with say a more rigid floor, coupling the speakers to that may work better than putting them on a carpet over a foam/felt pad. It depends on what the speaker does with what support conditions.

In these cases, it's possible to have some analysis done beforehand and suggest what may work the best. Then it's up to the owner to try the suggestions and see what really works or not.

Either way, it's great when a tweak works and the result is more enjoyment of the music. Congratulations.

I have small speakers, and have found this to work excellent in my living room (no room for stands):

The Nano Pads have been rolled up into a sausage shape.

Damn cool Keld,

I have a friend I need to pass this along to. For he has the same situation as you do. Thanks Bro.
