Glenn Sacks, an American men's and fathers' issues columnist and radio broadcaster, cited Carries Underwood's "Before He Cheats" as an example of the "double standard about domestic violence [that] manifests itself in ... popular culture".
Sacks notes that a "song and a video approving of a violent, jealous man destroying his girlfriend's car" would likely receive dissimilar treatment, and undoubtedly draw widespread criticism.
Also cited is the fact that, in reality, someone vandalizing their boyfriend's car would not simply get away with it and come out on top, as the woman in the song seems to think/suggest she will (especially given that she slashes her name into the seats, making it easy for any investigator to determine a prime suspect).
Now, all Glenn Sacks has to do is start writing about his vintage Hi Fi gear and the circle is complete.
If Art doesn't like that sort of thing, we better make sure he never figures out what's going on in Bizet's "Carmen."
When I first read your post I thought what is he smoking and where I get some? But knowing that your posts and comments are almost always on the money (hey we all post some useless crap now and then, some more than others) I went back and read both the link in your post and Art's rant in the September issue. I have to agree, Art is now officially part of the "under-the-rock" crowd.
It's a wonder to me you didn't stumble upon his old SAAB next to the rock???
Art is in good company:
