I'm very curious about Franck Tchang's "SugarCubes". Small rosewood blocks (about the size of a sugarcube) with special channels (aka holes) drilled into them, that are used in a special grid formation to treat room resonances. For, as he says, "you do not fight a problem. You spread it around, minimize and blend it in to reduce its overall impact on the room's sonic fingerprint." His HeartSong racks (want one), which use related ideas, are to die for. And you might have to to get one, if the wood is unavailable, because orders stop at that point. I'm gonna throw out a free tweak idea based on the Sugarcubes, if anyone wants to try it. I am putting it on the list to get around to it eventually, but I don't have the time or inclination to get into that right now. If you have an audio rack that uses (removable) wood shelving, bore a small diameter hole into the center of the shelf. See if that improves things.

I'm thinking of starting a new thread, "How Small Can a Thing Be and Still Change the Sound?"

Been there, done that. I think that thread ran about 37 pages.

Wonderful question, and I am being sincere.

I'd go with PFS!

Since you are never sincere, I assume you're referring to either the Philly Folksinging Society or the side-effects from some drug.

Just gonna have to trust me on this. We are likely not far apart.

Sheldrake excepted.

I think it needs to be at least big enough to allow a single angel dancing.

Damn, what's your problem now, dude? That I'm shilling for Franck Tchang? I posted a free tweak and all you can do is come into my thread and insult and harass me? Who are you anyway? The son of John Atkinson? How do you get away with breaking the "Don't be an asshole" rule 185 times, and crapping on every thread you enter that discusses audio? What are you doing on this forum if everything in high end audio is an offense to you? Get lost, you little brat.

OK.

This is going to be a hoot!

You indicated: "I'm thinking of starting a new thread, "How Small Can a Thing Be and Still Change the Sound?""

I responded: "I think it needs to be at least big enough to allow a single angel dancing."

You said to the contrary.

So tell us.

How big must something be to allow an angel to dance?

What smaller object changes reproduced sound and how does it work?

I'm game to discuss this.

You must not have heard of the Teleportation Tweak, which is performed over the telephone and has no mass and no dimensions. You would agree that is smaller than whatever you are talking about, no? Let's say you are referring to the head of a pin, there are other audio tweaks smaller than that, much smaller. Pop Quiz: Let's see if you can guess what they are. Feel free to ask your colleagues...

The other two tweaks in the smaller than the head of a pin category I had in mind are the Intelligent Chip, the active ingredient of which comprises only about several thousand atoms, and the Red X Coordinate Pen, which can have a noticeble effect with the application of only a dot of red ink the size of a period (.) - on an appropriate spot of course.

I think you are OK with the teleportation tweak.

However, once the tweak has mass I suspect there is a possibility of dancing angels.

Extensive investigation is required.

So, you can't think of a single tweak or device that is extremely small? That's OK, it's completely understandable. People who consider themselves Real Skeptics often have no familiarity with the very subjects they mock and dismiss. A "smattering" just doesn't cut it.

Can I suggest you curl up with Zen and the Art of Debunkery if you're ever in need of fresh arguments...

Uh, Geoff . . .

You know, humor. Silliness.

Dancing angels. Going with your idea that massless objects provide no dance floor.

Of course, if dancing angels are the mechanism by which these tweaks work I can understand that you might feel threatened by my calling them out.

Uh, Elk, why would I feel threatened? I am very used to all manner of naysayers and trolls. The more the merrier...

We were talking about very small audio devices, not necessarily ones without mass, remember? How Small Can a Tweak Be and Still be Audible?

No worries, I appreciate absurdity as much as the next guy.

All that has been mentioned so far are your "products" with no proof that they do anything at all Remember the key words here are "still change the sound" Sorry that I can't shill for you in this thread Geoff

If you can't follow the discussion please don't try to shill for me. The products I mentioned are NOT all mine. And I should point out the ones that are mine are excellent examples of tweaks that are very small and change the sound. Perhaps when you are in a more, uh, expansive mood you will provide some examples of your own, as opposed to acting like a dork.
