Try your orignal power cable with a reef knot compared to your new cable without.

Can't. The old cable is way too short - it just reaches the out- and inlets. Not even an inch to make a reef knot on.

But I'm trying with 4 reef knots on the new cable. Seems to work even better

I am not very happy to report this,

Not at all!

If it improves your listening experience it is, to quote Martha Stewart, A Good Thing.

Plus it makes a good conversation starter.

I would say that a description with the words "more natural" in it would be a good description.

Maybe "less harsh and aggressive" sound, eh, Freako ??

How would one put a reef knot in a single power cable? A reef knot requires two lines.

Actually the reef knot doesn't require two lines. A reef knot can be made in a single line. For thick or short cables, the reef knot can be tied in a thin wire you have lying around and simply attached to the thick cable using alligator clips, one clip on each end of the small wire. The real surprise is when you tie a reef knot on a cable that is unused, just sitting on the coffee table. To make matters worse, the reef knot can be made on any/all electrical cords of a lamp or any appliance like air purifier with results the same as an audio cable. The more the better. heh

Perhaps we are thinking of different knots.

This is a reef knot (square knot):

I thought of this, but this creates an additional loop (the one on the top).

No problem if this is what is meant, but it is different.

(I would have been kicked off the racing crew if I ever tied a reef knot in a line - it's a dreadful, insecure knot.)

Freako's drawing of a Reef knot in a single cable is correct.
Elk, the Reef Knot in an audio cable is for a different purpose than using such a knot for saving a life !!!

For the purpose being discussed it is not about being a safety knot !!

Wrapping up a cable in a coil increases inductance which naturally rolls off high frequencies. Would one or two loops be audible? That I can't answer but it might be the mechanism at work.

You're right, but a reef knot isn't exactly a coil, is it?

Cool.

Interesting however that the extra loop is of no consequence in a power cord, and does not exist when a reef knot is tied in two interconnects. Two different knots - same effect. Not a criticism, just a comment.

Of course not. It was just an aside. We tend to think of a square knot as secure, when in fact it is not; it capsizes easily. It is an example of how far most of us are from actually producing things - like gathering food from the sea.

Speak for yourself. Therer are plenty of people who are producing things. I guess the glass is always half empty with you guys....always so negative and ernest.
