I'd say he passes, but only because FZ is long gone

Vai is a weirdo. No doubt about it. And while he is technically more proficient than Frank was, I prefer Frank's guitar playing. Having said that, I really enjoy Vai, but I prefer to listen to rather than look at him while he is playing!

I can't disagree on that one! Not that Frank wasn't a weirdo, but he was a weirdo genius!

Two words- Mammalian Protuberances!!!!

Vai sounds and is amazing. His style was actually really fresh and new at the time, as while there were some amazing guitarists around. His technical achievements were evident in a lot of the stuff he did, if not musically very interesting, like FZ or SRV, at the time.

Everything he touched was.. Frank.

Love that guy. He challenged so many areas of music and its industry during his impressive life.

LSO volume 1 on vinyl, One Size Fits All, Hot Rats... all of it sounds incredible not only for its day, but also to-day.

Not to mention Chunga's revenge, Joe's garage, Roxy & Elsewhere and Apostrophe (I am a sucker for "Stink Foot", "Why does it hurt when I pee?", "Sharleena", "The Nancy & Mary music" and "Road ladies")

Ahhh, "Stink Foot", love that talkin' dog, lol. I think Steve Vai is an amazing guitarist, but Frank was creatively on a whole other level.

Miss ya, Frank. RIP

My python boot was too tight
Couldn't get it off last night
A week went by
and now it's July
I finally got it off
and my girlfriend cried:
"You got... STINK FOOT!"

Eddie, are you kidding?
I've seen you on my TV
Eddie, are you kidding?
The people always ask me
I saw your double knits
I thought they were the pits
You threw it in a bag
And then you sent me home-
What!?
Eddie, are you kidding?
No, no!
Eddie, are you kidding?
No, no!

Eddie, are you teasing
About your rancid garments?
Eddie, are you teasing
About your sixty tailors?
I'm coming over shortly
Because I am a portly
You promised you could fit me
In a fifty dollar suit-
Oh
Eddie, are you kidding?
No, no!
Eddie, are you kidding?
No, no!

Howard: Eddie, my friends ask me, Eddie, Eddie, are you kidding? I wanna tell you something, my friends: I am not kidding. Here at Zachary All we have sixty tailors in the back room. We have the west's largest selections of portly's, regulars, longs, extra longs, and cadets. And my friends say to me: Eddie, Eddie, what do you think of the new Double Knits?
Mark: Eddie, what do you think of the new Double Knits?
Howard: And I tell them: I'll tell you something frankly, my friends- When the new double knits first came out, I was not impressed. But as you can see, these pants I'm wearing are double knit. They stretch in all the right places. They're the most comfortable. Our model Twiggy here will demonstrate. I have this lovely little
Seersucker . . . wait a minute

WHERE CAN I GO IN GARDENA?
AND WHERE CAN I GO IN L.A.?
AND WHERE CAN I GO IN ROSEMONT?
I NEED SOME THREADS TODAY

I need the knits
The double knits
I need the knits
They are the pits
I need the knits
The double knits
I'm coming over shortly
Because I am a portly
You promised you could fit me
In a fifty dollar suit-
Whew!
Eddie, are you kidding?
No, no!
Eddie, are you kidding?
No, no!
Eddie, are you kidding?
No, no!
Eddie, are you kidding me?
Eddie, are you kidding me?
Eddie, are you kidding me?

Howard: No, my friends, I'm not kidding, right here on the miracle mile we have the west's largest selections of . . .

Portly,
Regular,
Cadet,
Tall,
And long

Howard: And not only that- My brother Jake and Little Emil, and . . .

Sixty tailors!

Keld, I know you didn't live in L.A. when this song was written in the late '60's/early '70's but it was a send up of an actual Zachary All garment store TV ad campaign ubiquitous across the airwaves at the time. The advent of "double knits" was the pre-cursor to the horrible, kitschy leisure suit phenomenon that threatened to temporarily displace traditional suits- even moreso than the Nehru jacket, LOL.

We were college kids wondering WTF was happening to our country and Zappa gave us hope- just marveling that he would immortalize this local schmucko tv commercial icon. It was awesome!

LOL, even though I have no chance of getting the whole charade, I can guarantee you: It's plenty fun! Just listened to this specific song yesterday - I laugh every time, NOT kidding!

Thx for explaining Can't wait till we start quoting this one:

Suzy Creamcheese: "With rubber?"
FZ: "Yes, we like rubber too!"
etc
