Arg! I'm having a lot of trouble deciding which rooms I liked the best! I'm going through the video recordings I've made over the weekend, and few of the rooms really stand out like at last year's show.

I believe the main problem is the new venue itself. No one has had enough time to figure out the room acoustics. Many of the systems I've heard should have sounded so much better, but very often the room itself just got in the way of a great performance.

Thankfully, the SSI should be back at the Bonaventure Hilton next year. Despite the growing pains with the new location, not having to deal with long delays at the elevators has made it possible for everyone to spend a lot more time checking out the equipment. And once my video is posted, it should help many exhibitors dramatically improve the acoustics of their set-ups in time for next year's show.

Either that, or I'll be banned from ever attending the show anymore.

EDIT: If anyone's interested, I have a total of 2 hours and 14 minutes of raw room recordings. Trimmed down to just the usable parts, it'll probably still be an hour and a half long.

Our SSI coverage is now complete. We can now get back to getting the June issue (packed with good stuff) to the printer.

Awesome. Will you be posting your recording of the "Ask the Editors" session?

Unfortunately, I wasn't present to record the "Ask the Editors" event, which would have been a bit repetitive considering I already did it last year.

To be honest, it would have been difficult to beat the record demagnetizer bit.

I'm actually short one event for my video this year which usually involves a third-party. But I have enough of the other material to complete the video including a lot more rooms than in the previous years. It's possible that might be what people really want to see and hear in the video.

One word of warning. The Rode Stereo Videomic is EXTREMELY unforgiving! Not only did it accurately pick up the sound coming from the systems, it picked up all the other noises people were making around me! I'll be using those bits in the microphone review I'm planning to make later.

Finally, there's a very good chance I'll get a few nasty letters from manufacturers this year complaining that their rooms sounded like crap this year. On the flip side, plenty of manufacturers will have all the information they need to make their rooms sound terrific next year. It is after all a new venue, and there are a few wrinkles that need to be ironed out.

I'll let you all know when the video is ready.

EDIT: I've picked my Top Five. That should be sufficient to get me into plenty of trouble.

Please be patient, the files are still being processed. That's what happens when you upload huge 1080p video files with uncompressed audio tracks.

YouTube has already flagged one of the videos as containing copyright content despite its fair use application. If that video or any of the other videos is removed by YouTube, the purged video will be replaced with a version that has ALL of the rooms muted along with a message as to why there's no more room sound.

That's just the way it has to be. Enjoy it while you still can!
