Alan,
THE BOSS works in market research and they have a great expression: "where you sit is where you stand"; your list reflects your tastes. You seem to be missing some obvious candidates (no Mozart, no Bach?!), but then again the task you have set is pretty intractable.
Some suggestions:
- Four Seasons (esp Spring) - Vivaldi
- Eine Kleine Nachtmusik - Mozart
- Toccata and Fugue in D minor - J.S. Bach
- William Tell Overture - Rossini
- Blue Danube Waltz - Strauss
- O Fortuna - Orff
- Infernal Galop - Offenbach
- Andante from Piano Concerto No.21 ("Elvira Madigan") - Mozart
- Canon and Gigue - Pachelbel
Oh boy, once you get started you just can't stop!
If you want popularity, surely there's such a list on Amazon which would offer the best index of that. As for "top ten," that's very personal and subjective. Such "desert island" lists have appeared many times.

Are you saying this question is beneath the forum and referring me to Amazon ?
I just thought it would be a fun light discussion without the politics of other rooms
Sorry if im out of place asking such a lightweight question
Alan
Rest assured you have. They are staples of film soundtracks and TV commercials. For better or worse that seems to be what determines how well known and/or popular classical pieces become these days.
How about these:
Adagio by Albinoni
Concerto de Orange Juice
Nah. You are fine with this. It is just that posting lists is one of my betes noires. I try not to read them, I never make a useful contribution and I just carp.
My reason is that I learn nothing from them except that I don't usually agree with them.
Have fun.
