She slept with me
I don't know if it counts
Well responded to, Grosse Fatigue. Actually this is one of the biggest problems with marrying a woman of easy virtue. I did it twice. They WERE a lot of fun when the going was good.
Curl, you do realize that GF is not real, right?
He is a figment of my imagination. you are speaking to an apparition.

Gentlemen, I only respond to what is put in front of me. I am not naturally diplomatic, but I will behave in the manner that I am confronted with. For example, when Buddha, a nice guy in person, better than most, gave me a hard time between the two words: 'consider' and 'suppose', and he would not overlook my typing on the fly, in order to give me some intellectual 'parsing', I treated him, in kind, and gave HIM a hard time. By the way, he was correct about the word use, but he made too much of it, between colleagues.
I find it amusing that many of you are so non-PC. Keep up the good work!
I assume you mean non PC as a compliment
I don't like PC, especially here in Berkeley, CA. They are tough on proper language around here, and they seem to change the name of their Ethnicity by committee, at regular intervals, and don't tell me.

He is rather dim
I mispelled the name of a singer once and everytime after that he would spell it like me

That's kind of insulting, no?
BTW, your constant finger-wagging and scolding is not befitting of the genius/biker image you're cultivating.
I'm curious as to how a thread goes from "I am done with this forum" to the "Audio golden age is over"?
If the latter is what is important without that golden age, we would not be where we are today with truly "high definition" audio and video.
If I think back to all the vintage gear from the likes of Scott, AR, Benjamin-Miracord, Quad, Pickering, Shure, Stanton, ADC, KLH, JBL, Altec, Bozak, Webcor (old R2Rs) Scotch tape (not what Roy Hall drinks), Dual,
Empire, Fisher, Marantz, McIntosh, Grundig, et al.
As many of you know, much of that gear is still being enjoyed by audiophiles all over the planet, much of it being refurbished for the fun of it as much as for the sound pleasure it brings.
Regardless, there as never been a time like now when we have the ability to enjoy more of a live performance at home than through the recording technology we enjoy today. It is most unforunate that the masses choose to reduce that greatness to MP3s for the sake of convenience, but it is a free country.
This is the best time to be an audiophile, but I am not sure that future generations will appreciate what "improvements" might be offered 20-30 years from now other than a chip the size of a Cheez-It that has 1 million mp3s on it. For most of us that would be a step backwards.
But, as Payton Manning says, "You could watch a Colt's game...I'm just sayin..."

My brain is going to implode from all of the shit talkin'..! We all sound like friggin' AUDIOPHILES! Oh my gosh, please... I need a joint and some fresh vinyl to caress..
They need to make a new audio accessory... The Audio Woobie! I need mine... now.
Maybe I'll feel better after I read "My Stereo Is O.K., Your Stereo Is O.K"...

Because the OP never intended to leave in the first place and just loves the attention... What other reason is needed?
Well just to add to the convo.
IMO the golden age is far from over when new technology seems to combine the best of solid state digital and Class A.
Auditioned the Devialet D-Premier for 4 hours today at home, IMO its design is definitely the future at a price that is a bit of a bargain when you can compare it to other reference products.
1st time for me a product at its price range or lower that reminds me truly of my listening experience at classical concerts and ballets.
It is also matches in terms of dynamics the big power amps (500watts into 8ohms), so its spec performance is a bit special.
And yep, will be placing an order to replace my current setup, which I did not think I would be doing.
And the dealer couple were refreshing, do not push power filtering products or even expensive cables (their experience is yes can change sound-performance but not necessarily for the better).
Goes to show those complaining on this forum that high end dealers are just after the cash and peddling snake oil, poor products, etc is based on assumptions, there may be rotten apples but thats life in all businesses and not solely audio.
Cheers

Not to anyone in particular.
Imo, some of the cost is for high power output, and some of course for speaker constuction/wood etc, manufacturing/business costs etc.
The actual quality of the sound is the result of the designer/engineer, parts quality etc, but this only goes so far as a factor of price.
As one deals with astronomical prices it is usually for name and jewelry appearance (and some huxsters), not sound quality. But I would not say the golden age is over.
Cheers.
Maybe it is good
What I cannot understand is why a new audio product has to be systematically better than the one it replaces
We are being brain washed by audio magazines
One of the best audio combination I ever heard was during the last Chicago CES, at a Hilton hotel almost 20 years ago
Audio Research VT150 pair
a turntable playing Harry Belafonte
Can't remember the speakers -actually maybe the Acarian Alon IV, not sure
but I remember vividly at the show the big Genesis sounding bloated in a hotel room
It was magical
Now CD players are a lot better than they used to be in the nineties but how much better can they get today??
It would be interesting if, instead of always talking about the new amplifier on the block, we would be reading more about vintage amplifiers, not in an historical point of view, but sound wise compared to what is being done today.

Sorry Grosse but what do you mean?
The Devialet is new technology so it would systematically replace.
In your context its like saying Class D (lets say it was the perfect answer years ago) is wrong because it replaces Class A.
What gets me is that a few people here complain there is no innovation...
And now we have a product with innovation and...
Someone complains no matter that it may measure more perfect than most other products or provides a sound that may be stunning even without considering it undercuts other reference products in price terms.
I am sorry but if you cannot see how an efficient true digital/Class A amp makes sense (if its performance and sound quality is up there with the best) then no wonder you complain a lot.
Its like moaning that an integrated amp exists and systematically replaces the need for a 2 box solution preamp and power amp
Thanks

You have to dramatize things a little
People listen when you talk about your mother
This thread has more than 2000 views
The thread about the Devialet has a couple hundreds
Jim, you say, "... but I am not sure that future generations will appreciate ..." Of course you're not, and neither are any of us. Remember the "golden age" that was announced with the introduction of the CD? Remember all those idiots who reacted by donating their vinyl collections to the public library? Did you see the magnificent resurgence of analogue that was to come - not only in hardware but in software? Me neither, but ain't it great?
I've been chasing great music reproduction for too long to count and have devoted too much time and money to it to count, but there never has been a better time that I recall to hear really beautiful music in your home no mattter what your budget is. I'm happy to wallow in today's golden age and not care much about what tomorrow brings. It isn't likely to bring fewer good choices than we have now, don't you think?
It has 2000 views because everyone was excited you were leaving.
Another retreat by the French !!

Wow your impressed with yourself I see
Aaannnnyway, glad to see my point may had been constructive enough for you to decide to be negative now not about audio but another forum poster.
Keep up the positive change, maybe eventually you will start to see some positives in your world view of audio.
Thanks
