Aren't you planning on building your "Man Cave"? A mans got to do what a mans got to do! I'm just sayin.
I sure enjoy mine with a 42" Philips TV at the far end with 3 audio systems, one for doing school stuff off the internet which includes an old refurbished dual 502/Stanton 881S, my main system to my left in my 12 x 12 office with a mostly Yamaha sys with an M60 amp/CX2 preamp/T7- tuner/Sony 755 DVD-SACD player/Yamaha 550 turntable with an Ortofon OM40/Denon DRS-810 3 head cassette deck/also fed from an old HP computer with a M-Audio DIO 2448 sound card as a music server/AR 58s. The main video system with DVD/42" Philips LCD HD TV set up in 2.0 with my Triangle Cometes.
You will need some tools to make all this happen as a DIY project. The above could be significatnly better, but also far worse. I enjoy what I have. My music videos keep growning weekly.
Come to think of it, Jim, I think the 3000lb. capacity racing jack is just the thing to move gear around the audio room!
But seriously, Stereophile, is this an ad meant to go into another of the mother corp's mags?

I think Jim got it. Apparently, there's a DIY sensibility to our hobby. We're tool men!
The Grunt
This ad was part of a corporate purchase, the ad running in all Source Interlink Media magazines, from Automobile and Motor Trend to Stereophile and Surfer. Why would you not want this ad to be published in Stereophile? As we set the size of each issue by matching the number of ad pages with editorial pages, one less advert means one less page of editorial.
There _is_ a coincidental audio connection, BTW, in that the Manley Stingray iTube reviewed in our March issue comes with a Harbor Tools voltmeter to set output tube bias.

You're surprised, and I'm surprised.
Because that thread concerned the first appearance of the Harbor Freight Tools ad in the January 2010 issue. I didn't know about the existence of this ad until I saw it in the printed January issue. Three months later, it is therefore no longer a surprise to me, even though apparently you didn't see it until its publication in the March issue. (You wrote in the message that started this thread: "Just wondering why my March 2010 issue contains a full page ad from Harbor Freight Tools?")
And as I asked, why does the existence of this ad matter to you?

I'm fine with it.
Most of my tools are Craftsman(Car repair mostly), but I have some of their stuff. Even if I didn't, I have no problem with the ad.
Like the complaint about Bose ads. If it helps pay the bills & keeps all this going, great! Plus, I presume ads are why I can afford a subscription?
Exactly. We get it. I am sorry that some don't. A cheaper magazine affords the purchase of more music.
I can see you will really run into trouble if we see some Fruit-Of-The-Loom ads. We all know that audiophiles do not want anything to get in the way of them and their music!
And it's a helluva volt meter. I'm planning on nominating it for accessory of the year. You've never truly measured volts until you used a Harbor Tools. Just having it in my listening room made the sound better. Truly a Stereophile Class A product.
I'm in favor of all ads that support the magazine.

Is that the legendary Cen-tech? Their reputation is built on their after-sales service. Check the last page of the manual. If it's the same as mine the last two lines are:

Seriously though, the meter costs less than the postage so the no-repair policy is at least environmentally friendly.
Yes, but when the meter cost 48 cents to make, $35 an hour for repairs seems a bit much. That still doesn't mean it does not belong in the Stereophile list of Class A components...while it works.
I don't see how Harbor Freight Tools related to the editorial content of Stereophil, but I don't care. Their ad suppports my hobby, so more power to 'em!
By the way, I have several multimeters and my favourite is this one bought for about $35 on ebay:
It is a Chinese equivalent of the Fluke 17B at about 1/4 of the price. It has proven to be both reliable and accurate. Unfortunately the LCD display on my Cen-Tech has become a bit temperamental although the meter still works. However if the Cen-tech is a Stereophile 'Class A' component I would have to rate this an 'A+'!
And the Ferrari Fly Yellow over Dark Slate Grey says you value good looks with your high performance!

But it is weird that ad is in there in the few occasions I've seen it. It makes sense to run it for reason JA listed here, but the ad almost seems like it's a viral anomoly or something.... like it wants to take over the whole magazine when no one's watching..?!?
But then again.... I've been at that doobie again!
