Corey took bribes? Well most everybody who wrote for 'Audio' magazine took bribes, and it was not just that magazine, either. It was the price of doing business with many of my former employers.

Forgive me, but I can't let what seems to be da bomb of the day go unquestioned. I've been involved in the hobby for quite some time and was unaware Corey took bribes.

I am familiar with some of his antics, and when he was the Tech guru for one of the major TV networks it was discovered he was under contract with several manufacurers to tout their products, not unlike persons who held similiar positions.

Are you claiming he took bribes while employed at audio rags, along with other audio writers? Would you care to elaborate?

I did not say that Corey took bribes in audio, but later, he was accused of something. I know nothing more.

Please excuse me, sir, but I don't know who you are, what you have to do with anything pertaining to audio, or if someone gave you the position of the moderator of this website. If you would only read what John Atkinson said about Corey in a previous message on this thread, then you would know what I am referring to.

He is one of our most level headed members with a good sense of humor.

RG is just joshing with you , John.

The "some have gone missing" is just a joking reference to KBK's recent absence from here in light of K's conspiracy theory view of the world.

BTW, welcome to the forum.

You have to understand, I have been contributing online for more than 20 years, my first 10 years with TAN, a phone-in network. JA and I met Corey there, and tried to get him on the right track. Corey dropped us in time, but certainly I wish him well, in future.
I am also like a old gunfighter. If someone challenges me, I am quick to draw my guns. Please don't provoke me or insult me, unless you want some in return.
When it comes to 'missing' most of the REAL contributors to many forums are expelled on a regular basis. Here it is KBK, on another major forum, it is my audio friend 'Curley' and EVERY input he made there has been erased, even though he is always polite in language, more than most. Why? Because he heard differences in connecting wires, when he once worked as a high end audio salesman. He is now a technician at TI, but no matter.
My best lady, Terresa, was similarly eliminated from another major website, recently, and EVERY input she ever made was erased. Why, because she prefers SACD over CD. Me? I'm under moderation, on another website, and a certain percentage of my messages are systematically erased, without posting. Why? Because I believe in what my ears tell me, as much as my test equipment. How do I know? Because I snapshot almost every message before I submit it.
Now why am I saying this? Because I would hope for better here, on this website, yet as soon as I start talking about Corey, I am warned that people disappear around here, by someone who does not appear to be in the industry.
Now, the only people besides JA and Geoff Kait that I know, is BUDDHA and him for a few minutes at CES. I note that he did not give me a clue, even though I asked him for one. Oh well.

I haven't spoken to Corey in more than a decade, but I will always remember him 15 years ago, playing in a band with JA, at CES and me 'getting down' on the dance floor, because I was AA at the time and while everybody else could get 'drunk as skunks' I had to dance my blues away. Corey noticed my dancing from the stage and wrote something in 'Stereophile' about it. You see, my other calling was to be a 'solid gold dancer' to interpret through dance, Rock and Roll, after I had given up on ballet. See, we are all more than we seem!

Too bad there was no YouTube in those days! That clip would be better than the dancing baby.

People are joking about KBK.

He continually posted about conspiracies and his last posts claimed a massive threatening conspiracy near his home.

I suspect he planned to stop posting for at least a while and set the stage for his own disappearance, the guy loves attention.

I may learn otherwise, but I seriously doubt that the forum's powers censored him in anyway and he is welcome to post at anytime.

I miss having him around, like the crazy colorful uncle with the occasional thought-provoking comment.

I don't think anyone has been banned here for their opinion.
For their behavior we have lost a few

I can understand why you are suspicious considering your experiences on other forums but I think you will find it different here.
Of course people disagree vehemently here but the forum is lightly moderated and Stephen only steps in as a last resort.

If KBK were "disappeared" by the mods it would have been announced.
I think he is probably lurking and enjoying our speculations.
I hope he is OK and returns soon.

Remember the black military jet that flew directly over KBK's house? Not kind of over, but directly over - in bold fashion.

If not, you've been mind wiped.

__________________________

Tying things together:

Ya know, Area 51 is just one number. There are lots of other numbers, and you also know they've gone to even higher numbers since Area 51 was put online.

(I've infiltrated Area 69, but that's another story.)

Anyway, we need to track that jet's flight path if we want answers and want to identify which area he's in for possible rescue.

This will be fraught with peril.

The last air traffic controller I contacted about this story got transmorgrified into a small boy and before he could call for help, they covered it up saying he was somebody's kid who the father had taken to work in the tower.....suuuuuuuuuure.

So, we have black jet fying right over KBK's secret headquarters, and air traffic controllers being turning into children.

Where do we look next?

Area 51....51..51..

51

17 X 3

Only divisible by prime numbers.

17.....1 + 7 = 8 = 2 X 2 X 2. A cube of the only even prime number.

51

5 + 1 = 6 = 3 + 3, the sum of a prime number added to itself.

We need to find the area whose number is divisible only by prime numbers; whose digits add up to a number that is the resuls of a prime number added to itself (with that prime number being one of the factors that were multiplied to get the number of area;) and whose other prime factor, when its digits are added together is the cube of another prime number.)

It's time to think like KBK.

I've got it! Well use the principle of Explosion, like he does!

I'll be back....maybe.

I'd be happy to make a side bet as to KBK's existential status, if that's what you mean.

My main bet would be that he's been typing his next post for the past three weeks and we are about to get hit with the first million word post on this forum!

KBK is an asset, he'll be back.

Have you ever met an audiophile who proclaimed he was voluntarily leaving a forum, and actually did?

Mr. Curl..why so worried about Ken Hotte?? Ive lost plenty of friends(mostly in Iraq, some because of drug use and 3 from natural causes) but I dont think anything is weird with Ken...he probably saw that we were all taking the piss, maybe took some time to really examine what we were saying and adjust accordingly(what we said we said was in jest but it was true)..or , more likely...he is sucking all this up, and revitalized by your concern for him, he will post some thousand page dissertation announcing his Resurrection as the Interweb Audio Messiah.

Sir, if your concern for him gives him a bigger head than he already has, oh jesus... i shiver at the thought

and so , this was your life, KBK

Here we go. Education? School Of Hard Knocks, mostly. I grew up in a red-neck northern town, Northern Ontario, to be precise. James Bay Frontier. The town of COCHRANE.. the home of Tim Horton! Tim Horton's is a place (franchised coffee shops) where Canadians drink and get their coffee from). Ooohh, what a claim to fame.... The temperature reaches -40C (-40f) regularly in the winter. Usually about 40-60 days a year. Great snowmobiling weather.. and when drinking outside..keep your beer IN your coat, close to your body, to keep it from freezing. I could almost literally shoot Moose, Black Bear, Partridge, geese, etc, off of the back porch, except for the the fact that I am not interested in killing anything. But, almost anyone there knows how to use a rifle, and handle it without killing anyone. I could point in almost any direction, and walk for 2-500 miles and not meet another living soul. I have heard paint peel. I am serious about that. A fabulous place for self reflection.. or quiet. Or drunken debauchery... the most common pastime. Cochrane was the drinking capital of Canada, for almost a decade. 14 bars.. 5000 people. (have another beer!) Hell, I had never even SEEN a six-pack of beer until I moved south (ever cute!). I thought 12-packs where for poor people.... When a child in such a redneck environment, I learned to HIDE my intelligence, it was more than enough to cause me to be beaten every day, if I let it show at all. Children are MEAN.. especially redneck kids. So, I leaned the art of being a chameleon quite early in life. No choice. It certainly caused me to investigate, first hand, the mental composition of the human mind and the layering of such. The warning signs in people (kids)where what I gauged my behavior by. A life of watching what goes on under the surface.. so as to survive relating.. on the surface. Sot of a self-built, first hand degree in human psychology. No choice. I also remember my own birth, and other important moments in early childhood. They say that development of the intellect and reasoning powers develops at the first moment you are 'on your own' and realize it. Due to circumstances beyond anyone's control, this occurred (as near as my mother and I can figure) when I was approximately two weeks old. Not recommended for psychological development of children, but the results where interesting. Oh yes, I am completely multi-dexterous. I can write with either hand, or foot, either upsidedown, backwards, reversed, mirror image, etc. I think I can do it in spirals, but would need a week to practice. I don't use it much. My dad used to sing in the house, all the time. He sung in the car, wherever. He had a gigantic console stereo that he paid $1400 for in 1968, I believe. I used to crawl under it, to get mo' better bass! I ended up joining the School choir, and the Church choir. I was kicked out of Sunday School for asking too many questions...("tsk, tsk", the man says to me, wagging his finger, and holding the gun on me,"why are you asking questions about dead saviors?" - a parody of 'The Firm') Thus evolves a love of music, and this evolves into a love of things mechanical. Oh yes. I was first electrocuted at the age of 5 or so. I was hit by a 'open wire' HV TV tube transformer. OUCH! Right through the chest. My heart seemed to start again when I hit the wall. I used to play chess (played for 6 months), until I beat my Dad, at the age of 6.5 or so. I discovered he was mortal at this moment. I was of course very unhappy with this discovery, and haven't played chess since. I started spontaneously meditating what the Buddhists call 'The Void' at the age of 8 or so. I used to sit in the bathtub and 'still' myself.. in the warm water, relax my breathing..and fade out..... I found a 'speaker guide' magazine one day while walking home in the usual snowstorm. (age 12 or so) Hmmm.. What's this 'Infinity' thing? I thought. Pretty funky, though. I wanted them! I used to skip school, sit in the library, and read. I ended up getting the second highest number of detentions on my high school's record books.. by reading. 652 dentitions in one year, if I recall correctly. I never made it past grade 9, they couldn't hold me. At this time there was NO recourse for kids who needed to be taught FASTER.. by the BEST. I only needed to be told something ONCE,and then move on, please. And, it had better be complex, and interesting, otherwise..keep it. I remember having the lowest recorded score for my grade 10 math course that it is humanly possible to have, without being kicked out of the school: 01% I kept the report card, in case no-one believes me. I've got it around here somewhere. While the rest of the kids where doing their math final, I was seen through the exam room window driving a Bronco XLT sideways across the school lawn, at high speed... throwing huge clumps of wet grass everywhere. YeeeHaww! I've been chased by the police on a snowmobile, (both of us! what fun!) more times than I can remember. They have families, and children, and are definitely NOT as crazy as a 16 year old on a high speed Snowmobile. I was never caught and ticketed, or what ever they wanted to do to me... Thus endth High School. Adrenaline Junkie (ret.) I moved down south at the age of 20 or so (Kingston, Ontario) and went to school at a technical college,with that grade 9 education. I ramped up to a grade 12 equivalent in 7-8 months, and entered what was billed as the 'toughest' "Electronic Engineering Technology" 3-year program available in Canada. After I found myself working 60 hours a week, to survive the fact that I spent all my money on STEREO equipment...I flunked out from near insanity in the last month of the first year of the program. (I was working three jobs, as two people had quit at my workplace) I drove cab, and worked on Unified Field Theory development whilst contemplating how much 'recreational abuse' the human body could handle. Clues into such where VERY scarce, until the advent of the internet (no, no! the field theories..). Basically, lots of logical deduction, and figure it out...look for the clues in nature.. find them..and deduce further... I went back to school,and drove cab to pay the bills. Took a two year diploma in electronics. I wanted to know LCR, just to be sure what they where teaching,and what I need to know was correct. I felt this was the only schooling I needed, to get to where I wanted to be. The rest was all feel, and logical deduction. To me, the education is nothing more than a rubber stamp. I have never used the education to get a job. Basically, do not blind yourself to what is true. Do not use an education to create a comfortable space. Question always, leave no door unopened, and close no door behind you. Leave room for ALL possibilities..ALWAYS. In this way only can one advance. Once you accept something as gospel, or you express an opinion, that condition anchors you in your own past of self-lies.. for today's truth has no choice but to be wrong in the future.. usually. Nothing is permanent. Life IS change. Permanence IS death. Lie to yourself, and you die. There's some of the simple stuff, (with all the fun stuff left out!)that's safe to tell people.

You people appear to be as callous a bunch as I have ever encountered. First, you back-bite KBK then laugh..

They are animals

Well, since KBK hasn't replied to John we now know he's dead.

In keeping with tradition here, I am willing to proceed without any objective data and will go along with the subjective 'fact' and say that regarding KBK's sad demise, an absence of proof is not proof of absence, and so, if John says subjectively that KBK is dead to him, then who are we to argue with someone's subjective experience? It has to be true.

Time for KBK's memorial:

I will say only this...

Friends, objectivists, subjectivists, lend me your ears;
I come to bury KBK, not to praise him.
The posts that men make lives after them;
No unexpressed consipracy theories will be interred with KBK's bones;
So shall it be for KBK.
The noble Ncdrawl
Hath told you KBK was overly loquacious:
If it were so, it was a grievous fault,
And grievously hath KBK posted about it.
Here, under leave of Ncdrawl and the rest -
For Ncdrawl is an honourable man;
So are we all, all honourable audiophiles -
Come I to speak in KBK's funeral.
He was my friend, faithful and just to me:
But Ncdrawl says KBK was paranoid and self-absorbed and ambitious;
And Ncdrawl is an honourable man.
He hath brought many audiophiles home to Stereophile
Whose addition to the advertising hits did the general coffers here fill:
Did this in KBK seem ambitious?
When that the subjectivists have cried, KBK hath wept:
KBK should have been made of sterner stuff:
Yet Ncdrawl says KBK confabulated;
And Ncdrawl is an honourable man.
You all did see that on the forums
KBK despaired we had not presented him a kingly crown,
Which he did thrice demand: where was his adoration?
Yet Ncdrawl says KBK made us credulous;
And, sure, he is an honourable man.
I speak not to disprove what Ncdrawl spoke,
But here I am to speak what I do know.
You all did love KBK once (or twice), not without cause:
What cause withholds you then, to mourn for him?
O judgment! Thou art fled to brutish and callous audiphiles,
And men have lost their compassion. Bear with me;
My heart is in the coffin there with KBK,
And I must pause till it come back to me.

Well, in that case, I retract my eulogy.

Hmmmm...wasn't he just dead for three days?

Monday - and we find he is risen?

Now THAT is more in keeping with KBK's persona!

__________

Just "OK?"

KBK's all right with me.

Since he isn't dead, are we less callous?

It is a brilliant book. Three friends working for a vanity publisher decide they can outdo all the lame conspiracy texts they have read and set out to invent the mother of all conspiracies. Then, between the history they uncover about the Knights Templar and the elements of their own design, they begin to unravel from their immersion into the occult.

The only thing "controversial" is how densely complex and convoluted Eco's tale becomes to a non-gifted reader like myself. The classical allusions alone had me constantly digging into reference books for explanations. I should reread it now with the benefit of the internet at my disposal.

There are also cryptic mathematical exercises that reminded me of Buddha's post, hence my clever punage.

I think you will love the book.

The Name of the Rose is the better book (more carefully crafted and better edited), but Focault's Pendulum is fun, also.

I love Eco.

Baudolino is also great - it's an odd read, and then you're done and wish it kept going!
