I wish you had included a photo of the counterweight. I am curious if they put that end stub on for a particular counterweight tweak. Also what cartridge are you using and what is its weight. Sometimes a heavier counterweight is needed for a heavier cartridge.

It seems like the original counterweight. It matches the diagrams and pictures I've found of the old Pro-Ject 9 arm.

Edited To Add: I just weighed the counterweight here at work, and it comes in at almost exactly 79 grams. So it has to be the "medium" 80 gram counterweight - just right for the Goldring 2500 but too heavy for the Grado (see below).

As far as the cartridges go, it came with two. The story seems to be thus: the original owner sold it mounted with a Grado Gold, and the guy I bought it from had the Grado swapped out for a Goldring 2500. The table came with both.

I could post more pictures later today. I took the tiny screw out of the cracked post, and found that the small part that inserts into the butt of the tonearm could be pulled out with little trouble. The post is entirely plastic, save the little metal studs used for threading the counterweight.

My Googling hasn't yielded any pictures or diagrams that show a Pro-Ject 9 without the counterweight attached, so I'm not (so far) able to confirm that this broken piece is the original post. I'd be mildly surprised if it is, due to being plastic... Anybody here have a table with a Pro-Ject 9 on it? Would this small part be one I could purchase, perhaps directly from the manufacturer, or a parts supplier?

Jeeez, has this forum shriveled up or something?

Anyway. I got an email back from a VP at musichall, yesterday. He suggested that I attempt to superglue the broken counterbalance post directly to the butt of the tonearm.

No, I'm not kidding, and yes, he seemed to be serious.

After I expressed my skepticism about such a course of action, he then replied that I can get a replacement stub in a week or two if I will send a bit of cash via Paypal.

So hopefully I'll be up and spinning by Christmas.

Hey, I have this exact same issue on my 5.1se. I bought it from a russian seller years ago and they shipped it with the counter weight attached and it snapped the plastic butt off the end just like this. I would have to replace the tonearm. I dont know why Roy said you can replace the nub separately that is impossible. My question is what can I use as a replacement? I called hifiheaven and they said they sell the replacement. https://hifiheaven.net/shop/Our-Store/Demonstration-Rooms/Products/Turntables-and-Phono-Accessories/Turntable-Performance-Enhancement/Music-Hall-MMF-5-1-Replacement-Tonearm?limit=25

Another idea I had was try to find a used Pro-ject 9c or could I even use the 8.6cc on this table? there is a used one here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/203507501220?ul_noapp=true
Roy Musichall hall said I can use a 9in tonearm. Well the 8.6cc is 8.6 inches. I don't really want to scrap it cause I replaced the platter with an acrylic one, bought a pully to work in USA and bought a dust cover for it. If I can spend around 200-250 bux I think its worth it since replacing this with something better will cost significantly more than what I have into the table. $300.00
