I am sure that servo motors take a bad rap from time to time, and I am not sure about the sonic degredation for a spinning turntable platter. I know many in the high end business feel it is a wrong way to go.

Industrially speaking, I have had the opportunity to use a number of "servo" motors and, if under heavy load, can cause the cogging many complain about. It is this staggering, "hunting" movement that some feel is inherent in the Technics motor/platter assembly that degrades the sound.

I remain to be convinced that at the low level of load and drag of a phono cart at 2 grams, that would seriously degrade the rotational performance of a table. There are still thousands out there in 1200 land still spinning merrily along. I still think it is probably a good buy at its price point for the time being.

If Mr. Fremer wasn't so busy totally enjoying his new Maxx 3's and the Caliburn I would love for him to shoot out that and the P2-24 he recently did. He should not have to take a step back into audio fast food land for me.

Now, maybe it would be more up ADs alley...or maybe not at all. Or, better yet, maybe someone has one they could lend Stephen for a test run now that he is fully immersed in lp land.

I just hope Technics keeps making them for years to come. I may just need to buy one next year just for the fun of it. I know it would out live me. Let my 3 boys fight over it at the reading of my will.
