Yes. I auditioned some others (Mahler, Shostakovich, Jolivet, etc.) and thought they were uniformly warm yet detailed with great weight in the bass. Unfortunately, I was less than enthusiastic about the music-making.

so is it better to suffer bad recording quality for good performance? yeah, I guess so.

Sometimes, yes. Sometimes, no. For me, it depends on why I am listening. Most of the time, the music is the issue and less-than-outstanding sound is unimportant. Other times, I just need a fix.

Same here, though since I have become "audiophile" conscious, I am finding that there are a lot more albums I cannot endure, at least on my good system or in my studio.

Gotta agree with this. If I only went for SOTA sound, I'd have a very boring music collection.

I wish the two could intersect more often.

Looking through my collection, there are only a few recordings that possess both.

Arvo Part- Te Deum(ECM New Series)
Symphony of Sorrowful Songs- (Nonesuch)(Tony Faulkner eng)
Morton Lauridsen- Lux Aeterna(RCM)
