Just got my Music Direct email about it.
It seems price creep has hit Oppo!
I like Oppo and all, but I am wondering a little about diminishing returns at this point.
I'll be curious to see how people react to its sonics!
1. There's a full description of the SE upgrade features on the Oppo website but, basically, the DACs and PS are the major portions for change.
2. All of these modifications are restricted to improving the analog output performance. Video and digital performance is unchanged.
3. NuForce has announced, already, an enhanced version of the SE with further analog stage improvements.

Hey Kids!!!
NFS will be featuring it with ModWright Mods at the 2010 THE Show in Las Vegas!!! We'll be one of the first on the block to show it. Come by and listen to it! We'll pour you a drink (as always).
Cheers!
Mike
Great!
How does the modded one compare to the stock player?
I heard Dan's modified BPD-83 at this year's RMAF and was very impressed with it. My digital source is over 8 years old so I decided to upgrade. I actually purchased the BPD-83 from Amazon (I had a $100 gift card!) and had it shipped directly to Modwright. Dan emailed me about the SE version. I read about it. Oppo has a promotion to upgrade BPD-83's to SE version. So...my Oppo is now back in Silicon Valley becoming an SE. Then again will be shipped to Amboy Wa for Dan's work. Finally shipped back to Las Vegas in time to be enjoyed by a bunch of partially inebriated audiophiles.
I think the ESS Sabre DAC will be well worth the difference.

In other words, you don't have a clue what a stock unit sounds like!
Nope!
Bliss!
