Not to worry Struts. Folks are paying above retail for the stereo and mono boxed sets on Ebay!

Of course they will milk this cash cow for anything and everything they think they can get.

But the novelty of this USB release is too much to pass up, and wait till internet buzz starts proclaiming how the SQ blows away the CD's!

Good to hear from you. Missed ya round here!

Thank you for the kind words RG. I kinda lost the will to live when Elk disappeared from the board but I guess after a period of mourning I am finally getting over it.

I've been keeping busy though. I organized the first ever Swedish head-fi meet which was great fun, also my home brew DAC is now finished and making great music. I actually preferred it to the Weiss Minerva in a single-blind test in the 'Level 3 room' at Audio Concept (it was the first time I had heard it and I had only heard the Weiss once before so very little possibility of expectation bias) which was very gratifying.

The next project I am contemplating (inspired by Elk, JA and others) is to try my hand at some recording (with Chirstmas approaching there is a round of superb church concerts coming up). It's more than a bit intimidating to stand right at the bottom of yet another huge learning curve, but I'm really itching to give it a try...

Struts, recording is my thing..id love to know what gear you have for the purpose..

here are clips from my first ever "big" recordings.(for release) Simply a stereo mic in blumlein. with two cardiod flankers mixed to 2tk live via a wendt x-4 mixer. Heddesheim, Germany...I was a rookie in every sense!

it really isn't so bad, Struts.

If I may suggest a couple of books..

two books by John Eargle--Sound recording and the handbook of recording engineering..

and the "new stereo soundbook" are must-haves.

seriously, though.. I can really help in this area..Are you intending doing simple 2 mic HQ recordings?

Thanks ncdrawl, I assumed that someone somewhere had already noted the USB release but I almost never venture up to 'General Rants & Raves' so I missed Buddha's post.

I don't have any recording equipment yet, I will probably borrow some stuff to start off with. My ambition is to record choral works such as Weihnachtsoratorium but I will try to cut my teeth on some smaller scale stuff to get my hand in. Those excerpts from Die Sch

that was my very first recording, ever..so thank you, Struts.

Ive come a long way since then. if youd like, please email me at luxaeternaaudio@gmail.com and I will gladly help you out. This is definitely an area that Is a strong suit of mine(recording of acoustic music).

there are several cds that would serve you well..

all done by John Eargle. they are..

"engineers choice v1 and v2" , "the king of instruments"

and "the symphonic sound stage"

they are unique in that the liner notes go into great detail(exhaustive!) about mic selection, placement, and ancillary equipment used for each track. They also explain *exactly* why each approach/setup was used. I listen to them often. very, very helpful!

oh yeah..."Mastering Audio" by bob Katz..that is another "must have" book.
