Four on the floor?! That's good, when was the last time you saw a new car with a four speed transmission? During the Reagan administration?

Fond memories for you - too bad they are all figments of your entertainer's lies, commie-hunter Ronnie wouldn't pass muster as a conservative today. He'd be labelled a RINO and drummed out of the party. I never could understand how you repubs could like the SOB after he ruined numerous careers by cowtowing to McCarthy's demands for names and information. I imagine there are more than a few writers, actors, etc. who wish Ronnie spends all eternity in the deepest regions of Hell wiping Joe's ass with his tongue.

Feeling a bit "exasperated", Cliffy?

Quote:
"Or else what?" "This had better be good," or your rules are merely personal, that's what.

Of course they are my rules, I stated that when you responded with words that required explanations. You don't have to like my rules but they're the rules I established for this game of checkers. Stop whining!

Fear creeping in?

Quote:
Your rules do not rule the language.

Never said they did, they are just the rules to this game.

Why so upset, Cliffy? What's to fear?

A word?

Fear your entertainer's words are going to be proven to be nothing more than the dishonest, fabricated bullshit they are in "reality"?

You are making me more confident all the time, you are too easy to defeat. All you have is venom, same as all the other repugs. No ideas, just attack, attack, attack.

So much for the Cliffy with the big words full of bravado! Now you're reduced to grade school attacks.

Your only out is to attack me? Really?! Over a friendly game of checkers on the back porch?

Just because I said the rules are what they are and they apply equally to all? No special exemptions for Clifton. Boo-f'ing-hoo!

No special Bill of Rights for Cliffy?

ROTFLMAO!

You're afraid of a single word!

A single f'ing word!!!

You're looking more and more like the frightened little repug you are.

Go take a pill and write a letter to Sarah, this is just about over.

Don't be impatient.

You still need to respond to "liberal". That's the word I posted just before Cliffy had his seizure and pooped his Pampers.

Liberal to moderate, conservative to progressive? I'm not sure what Thesarus you're using, ncdrawl. It sounds more like entertainer's visions again or at least an interpretation and not a real opposite.

Racist.

Hello. Earth to Jan. We are getting some diatribes. We are getting responses of more than a single word. We are getting entertainers' visions. We are getting multiple uses of each word.

Your thread is out of control. Play in language cannot be constrained by legislative fiat, especially when the legislator is a control freak who doesn't understand his own rules.

"Very simple."

Only if you are as simple as the game's author.

Give us another diatribe, Jan.

You started out, here, what seems eons ago, posing as an audiophile. Now, you have become your own worst enemy -- just another prick with an endless personal agenda, with which to fill his lonely hours. Liberals. Conservatives. Moderates.

Open a trading account. Put some skin into the game. Apprise us of your trades. We'll listen. Bet "Liberals," "Conservatives," and "Moderates" with your own cash. Hell, at least bank a few Shekels with your remarkable insights into how the system works. I have posted my trades. You post yours. Let's make it a, er, "game."

Money certainly isn't everything. But it is, at least, concrete. And one can keep score with the simplest arithmetic skills. Faite vos jeux. And THEN give us the anti-diatribe.

You have gone from the binary "day/night" into the 3rd term -- "liberal/conservative/moderate." Where will it all end? With a glossary?

And, in reality (where we all live, like it or not) "four on the floor" is still not only available, but desirable. Reagan or no Reagan.

And it gets better mileage than the slushbox alternatives.

If you need a 5th gear (poor you), that, too, is available, and a good second choice. If you need a 6th or 7th gear, you are just another yuppie looking for bragging rights at the next stoplight.

You have already used "each word" at least twice, and more.

What happened to the "rules"?

Hey. A rule is a rule, no matter who makes up the game.

Ncdrawl, don't you have anything better to do on your honeymoon? Hey. Feed that babe a little sour mash and give 'er a good stern shot. Now, THAT'LL get 'er attention!

Thus ends my non-diatribe. Which wasn't allowed. Because it went against the rules. Yet, here it is. Pristine and un-erasable.

Sorry, Jan babe. We all answer to a higher power.

Kisses, from "Cliffy."

Yaaaaawwwwwnnnnn

Another metonym, racist = bigot = Cliffy

I told you, no one's playing your game and you don't get to set the rules to this one.

Shouldn't your signature be listing your market affiliations with the promotion of gold bullion? Geeeeeez, Cliffy, you just can't stand it if someone isn't putting their money in your market where you can get your grubby little paws on it. Greed is not good and I'll put my money where I want it placed, thank you very much. "Put some skin in the game" is not an argument against this thread, you moron!

Manual transmissions? Fun, maybe, in the right circumstance, most of those circumstance do not occur in day to day driving in a suburban seting. Monitarily wise? Hardly, you loose more money on the trade than you spend on the automatic at purchase, even on sport cars. Your illogically myopic allegiance to outdated ideology remains intact.

Go count your money, it's all you appear to be good at. Is that what you were doing at 3AM? Rolling in your Shekels?

Geez, guy, you're creepin' me out here.

To clarify, here is what I posted in the op ...

Quote:
Very simple, I give a word and you give its antonym or opposite as you see it.

You can only use single word responses, no diatribes and no entertainer's visions.

You can only use each word once.

I'm not saying there is only one word that should be considered the opposite of what I say, only that I'm not certain what Thesaurus you are using to complete your responses. A typical Thesaurus will contain several antonyms for a given word without resorting to Cliffy's metonomic extensions. I would not expect to find a few of your responses listed in most Thesaurses as antonyms for my words.

You can take that however you prefer, ncdrawl.

It doesn't matter to me whether you use a Thesaurus or rely on your imagination, the game is the same either way I would hope. Your answers weren't what I would have expected in several instances. That is what I'm looking for though, what does the other person in the game consider the opposite to my words.

Do you wish to continue? If so, respond to "populist" and we'll soon wrap this up.

no hostility..just curious!

Checkers can reach a draw and have no winner. Sorry if you were misled into believing I was going to prove anything, I was just curious about a few words that have become part of the American lexicon. If you musy "win" when you play game, then I suggest you consider the fact you won the right to play another game. No one was crushed or proven unworthy to draw oxygen, that should be sufficient reward for a friendly game. Though I was rather amused at the hostility and even the curiousity engendered by the mere possibility a mysterious, sinister word might show up on an audio forum.

I never said only one person could play and I notice it became very quiet around here between outbursts from the peanut gallery. You don't think that's interesting?

This is not a game. It is a disguised diatribe. From the start. Which was my point. "No explanations allowed." At least 80% of the words spilled on this thread are "explanations."

I measure my life in money. Yeah, right. Nice try. I measure my life in music. More money buys me better music, provided I don't gull myself with bad listening habits. Which is a long shot, since I have been at both the "money" and the "music" games all my life. I believe this is called "begging the point," and you needed some contrived game, that fell on its ass, to prop up your agenda.

Let the record speak. I recommended gold and the miners at seasonal lows. Now, we are up at least 10%, in 2 weeks' time. If you don't need money, you didn't need to construct a false narrative about my motives. The gold bull is now a nut-swingin', slobberin' beast, lookin' for academic types to gore to the turf and butt-fuck 'til the last whimper.

I have a word for you. Give me the antonym. The word is "unaware." My rules. No thesaurus. No secondary meanings. My rules, on your inane thread.

Money is only what it buys. It certainly is no store of value. Make it and spend it. That is all I do. And I spend it on the love of my life, music. Indirectly, that small portion of the macro- economy that profits from my passion turns good profits from my studies of (and actions within -- something you wouldn't understand) the marketplace.

I just made a killing, and I told EVERYBODY here why it was going to happen before it happened. And I will spend it on taxes, music, and good wine. Do you REALLY have a problem with that??

Suggestion. Stay in your delusional world. Suffer in it. Whine and fabricate false narratives in it. But don't puke on those among us who make our ways successfully. We'll merely dodge out of the way and stay on track.

Moron. Loser. Yeah, you.

Not me. I was curious as to what the purpose of the game was, though. I now know that the purpose was for you to satisfy some curiosity you had..and that is fine.

the "checkers" thing led me to believe that there was some sort of strategy involved... wrong/right answers, etc.

I then thought it was some sort of psychological profiling tool(which as an Iraq veteran with many years in the box).. but anyway.. its all good.

Ncdrawl, all fencing aside, happy Veteran's Day. Lest you think this is self-serving, my being also a veteran of a genuine shootin' war, your conflict will be judged by History as more significant than mine. Your sacrifice stays within the present much longer than mine will. My war has been judged by History as delusional. Still, the pain (physical, from random fire and badly played piano wire, and psychological, merely from being insecure in a strange land on some weird leap of faith...) is the same.

And we both lucked out. Here's to that, on this day. We both made it through and live on to post responses to inane "games."

Once again, brother vet, I salute you for serving your time when called. Many, here, do not understand that simple statement. On this day, I salute your sacrifice.

Happy Veteran's day, Ncdrawl. Pause. Reflect. Reflect on why we did what we did. Somehow, our country is better off with us than without us.

Strange. On this site, I feel somewhat out of place even mentioning all of this. But it IS, undeniably, Veteran's day. So, today, you get my multiple wishes for a happy life. And the same goes for all the other Veterans out there. I KNOW there must be more than us two.

We only get one day a year. And this is that day. After midnight, let the follies continue. But for now, this is our day. We are the only ones who know, from experience, what Arnold meant by " where ignorant armies clash by night." Hell, not even Arnold knew, when he wrote the lines.

I guess that is the point.

Happy Veteran's day to all of you out there who fought the good fight in the darkness that always surrounds fighting the good fight.

Jan, you don't KNOW "game." And that is all I have to say on this matter.

I would have taken that personally if you used proper English. Veterans today complain too much and expect too much. In other words, they talk too much. But here I go again running my mouth. No matter what you did in the last 50 years or so it don't add up to dry shit. The last great battles were in Vietnam like Ia Drang. Before that it was Korea like Chosin Reservoir. Before that it was the entire WWII and WWI. In retrospect the best we can brag about is an aborted mission or a skirmish so why bring it up. Don't mean shit. The only so-called "hero" I know is Earle Breeding and he is on his last leg.

Armistice Day. Huh? And then we waited for the next war. "Armistice Day" denotes a finality. An end to strife.

Yet, here we are. Given this reality, no matter whether the trenches are wet or dry, we keep getting called. And we always answer the call. We are politically misallocated and philosophically misguided, basis which way the winds are blowing. BUT. When called, we answer the call.

We just go. We let the politicos and philosophers (as well as the pseudo- politicos and pseudo-philosophers) pick the nits in hindsight. And, make no mistake, nits always get picked in hindsight. We who are/were on call do/did not have the luxury of hindsight. We just have to GO, and let the hindsighters mind-fuck the details, later.

Hey. We were wrong. We were right. The operant tense is the past tense. Just in case, we always had to go in the PRESENT tense.

Talk is easy, in the past tense. "History" is always revisionist. No problem.
We'll make the mistakes, and I am sure you all will later clue us in as to how dumb we were in simply showing up when called.

Okay, Lamont. I am sorry about your wet grandfather. He answered the call.

And his "Armistice" just didn't last. He, bless his soul, probably would have understood that. He was a soldier. He showed up when called.

I have NO idea what you are talking about, with this post. If "Armistice Day is recognized throughout the world," then WHY are we still havin' at each other.?

Now, I am SURE you will have somebody to blame. But facts is facts. Veteran's day is for those of us who answered the call, BEFORE somebody manufactured the validity of the call, later. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, especially when you never had to get involved in the present.

"Armistice" never happened. In the present OR in the convenient future. As usual, Lamont, you play in a delusional arena.

Give us, who served blindly, further gnomic half-truths. We can't wait. AFTER THE FACT.
