Ahahaha!

The nominee list was finalized in February. According to the fine folks at the Nobel Foundation, 33 organizations and 172 individuals comprised that list.

And Obama won.

Ahahaha!

I saw your post before I saw the news. I was sure it was just Lamont screwing around!

I guess the field was so weak, that doing nothing is now Nobel-worthy!

I look forward to my victorious trip to Stockholm next year, as I have done the same quality work!

Ridiculous that a person who's been in the office for not even 10 months wins the prize, no matter how influential and game-changing his policies are. I'm saying this not to denigrate Obama, but I'm thinking of so many people who have dedicated DECADES of their lives in sacrifice for the cause of world peace, who won't be recognized this year because of the Obama Fever. No doubt Obama won this year not so much for his achievements (c'mon, 9 months in the office, dude) but for being such an antithesis of Gee Dubya: the prize is a passive-aggressive smackdown on the Bush-era Cowboy America.

Still, it's not so surprising that the Nobel selects their recipients based on their very leftist, Euro-centric ideologies. Take the Nobel Lit award for example. The judge openly proclaimed last year that no American will win the award because we don't translate enough and that Europe is the center of literature:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2008/oct/01/nobelprize.usa

Umm, kind of goes against Alfred Nobel's will in relation to the candidacy for the prize:

Quote:
no consideration whatever be paid to the nationality of the candidate

And so who wins the prize this year? A big surprise:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091008/ap_on_en_ot/eu_nobel_literature

Right... who the hell is Herta Mueller? Who cares as long as she's not American. I try to stay pretty current on literature, not just American but worldwide, and I'm not too ashamed to admit that I've never read her work.

The Nobel always had agendas but the current committee has been pushing their political bent a little too hard. At least in literature, it would help their credibility if they awarded the prize according to the writer's body of work, and not for reflecting the ideologies of the Nobel committee. But maybe that's too much to ask of an institution that chose to award its first prize to Sully Prudhomme instead of Tolstoy.

Doesn't take much any more to win a Nobel. Anyone who has won in the past just had THEIR award diminished greatly.

To the conservative mind, yes, yes, it is as are the seven years preceding 2008. Which is exactly why O got the Nobel. Exactly my point and that of the NYT editorial. Thanks.

Didn't Al Gore win it twice, the first time for inventing the internet? I know the 2nd time was for saving us from global warming. Snow in Chicago today and what, no baseball in Denver? When it gets so hot in Denver and the air is so thin it is hard to breathe, so running the bases is out.

Wait, I just lost 137 seconds...a Flash Forward is coming...

It hinted that Obama winning really didn't effect me. I'm too old! Lamont was the new President and his stimulus was to send every living male an Ayre C5-XE MP. Now we're talking!

Caligula would be an improvement over most of the elected Repubs like, say, Vitters. There's one arrogant SOB, apologized to the Repubs - who gave him a standing ovation for not leaving in disgrace like he should have - but not to his wife. I guess that's where Sandford got the idea to screw his South American mistress on Father's Day instead of spending it with his four kids, eh? If Vitters can get by with being an ass so can he. Now, tell me, I don't remember, the Nobel committee considered those two for what award?

Quote:

How could I have guessed that's what you'd say. I think you've told me once before where I get my information doesn't suit your party line. But it's so hard to tell since nothing I can read or watch or listen to for more than a few minutes and certainly nothing I can believe puts out the party line you guys subscribe to - the corporate BS hate your neighbor individual freedom to be overwhelmingly stupid line.

Not the right's party or the right's mouthpiece, eh?

That's always the out with you guys, nothing's right enough for anything when it comes to the far right wing nuts like you.

I know! Why don't we all watch Glenn Beck blow that vein in his forehead trying to spell "oligarcy"?

ROTFLMF'ingAO!!!

No thanks, I'll read someone who can at least spell and punctuate. That leaves out most of the right wing nuts' shouters.

Go back and read the NYT editorial. Go back and read what the Nobel committee said. Read something, anything! other than the idiotic crap you fill your head with now.

Otherwise, why waste logic explaining anything to conservatives? You guys function on blind hatred of American values, so logic is not in your DNA. If that weren't true, you wouldn't have to ask dumb questions.

You have nothing as a real plan other than cut taxes on the top 1%, cheat on your wifes and build a bigger, whiter echo chamber so you have to whine and cry that O got a prize that W was laughed out of.

Like a bunch of bratty, whimpering little two year olds, "WAAAAAHHHHH!!!!WAAHHH!!! O got something and we didn't. People like O and hate us. WAHHHHHHH!!!! WAHHHHHH!!!!! We want to bomb somebody!!!!!!"

Great way to solve all the f'ing problems you guys left behind. Oh, shit, that's right, you never had any solutions in the first place - just more f-up's.

Glad you're gone, stay gone, shut up and remember why you're gone.

"It is a very imaginative and somewhat surprising choice. It is wonderful," Tutu told reporters. "He has had a very significant impact. [His presidency] has changed the temperature, and almost everybody feels a little more hopeful about the world."

Spare me... everyone knows that he was hunted by the Republicans for political gain- plain and simple. You know, I know it... everyone does. Only the Republicans won't admit it. Who views Ken Starr as any kind of hero now? Footnote city. At least you kept the political discussions to where it belongs this time- in the Open Bar.

And the master goldsmith was Ronald Reagan and his bullshit in Central and South America during the 80's. To compare Obama's works to anything that shit-smith Reagan did, and to the whole of due process being destroyed with Ollie North and Noriega in their far greater and more dangerous scandal is to deny like a Republican. At least Bill Clinton is still helping this country (hostages in NK), and not simply whoring himself out like Ollie has in the last decade, with his talk show drivel.
