My dear old mammy spent her entire life pondering just this sort of thing, along with other ways the world will end or society is going to fall to pieces, etc...

When she was in her nighties and getting ready to meet her own personal Jesus, I asked her about all this and asked how she felt about all the time and personal energy she had invested in this style of thinking. She said it pissed her off...but wouldn't say if she was pissed off because it didn't happen or because she had wasted so much brain time on such things.

Maybe it's best not to even leave your bunker. If you want scary, try Googling the dangers of driving and the peril you face!

Hey, all your ammo is EMP proof, right?

At least there's that!

On the plus side, it's a good reason to use only tube electronics. Let's tell Art Dudley.

After it all ends, it will be cockroaches, tubed gear, and 78's - Dudley's revenge!

The thing that makes all of this totally ridiculous is that the same deterrent rules apply as with a nuclear attack. As soon as a launch is detected, the US won't wait to figure out whether it's an EMP launch or a land strike. They will counter strike immediately. Everyone knows this and everyone knows that the US has more nukes than everyone else. So that means that whoever launches the EMP missile will be obliterated.

Therefore, there's no reason to worry about it. Whether it's EMP or nuclear land strike or whatever. Chances are that you'll wake up tomorrow and life will be good enough to afford you a chance to be just as stupid tomorrow as you were yesterday.

I still think this is proof that the President wants to take away our guns and we should relocate to white man country and arm ourselves.

Stockpiling weapons, food, water, and red, white, and black fabric swatches may also be considered as essential.

Can't be too careful.

Did you know the government knows where you are at all times by tracking your cell phone and computer?

Both should be destroyed. Only print media is EMP proof.

Well, yeah, but that's just "common sense" precautions. I've been going over every episode of The Flintstones very carefully to ensure that I have all the prehistoric animal and bird DNA to help me recreate that technology in case of the EMP blast. So, while all you bleeding heart liberals will be sitting there with your lights out, I will drive my Flintstone mobile, vacuuming my rugs with my pachyderm cleaner and listening to fine tunes on the $100,000 gramophone playing those sweet old stone tablet LP's.

An EMP launch comes from a ship at see off the cast and is a missile or so. No one would retaliate under those circumstances until we know who to retaliate against, if ever.

When you're feeling up to it, ask any ranger at Yellowstone about "Tourons" (that's conflating tourist and moron).

I have a 5-shot sequence from our last trip there that epitomizes the genre.Swinging kids around at the ends of the arms (with the kid going Wheee) over a hot spring.

Just search for 6SX7's on the net and you will find people saying (and linking to) that it is 'the funniest audio thread. ever.' I'm talking about the Queen's English, Just sos yah knows.

As for such scenarios in film, I suspect you are old enough to remember the threat that was drilled into us.

See the film 'Miracle Mile.' Awesome stuff.

The most serious threats to the nation are those who think there is a "serious threat to the nation."

Hey. Life's a bitch and then you die. I wish I knew who said that first.

Everything in between birth and death is high fidelity. Just nuke me between side "A" and side "B," so I don't have to waste the effort cleaning the record.
If I am playing a CD when Armageddon hits, I deserve the punishment.

God bless the internet, for FINALLY allowing the uninhibited spread of unimaginative versions of hell. In our various pursuits of irrelevant information, and in our beliefs in what we find at the ends of those pursuits, we spiral down to hell before it is even time to experience the real thing. God bless the internet. If it is written on ANY website, it is Truth. The more links, the Truthier the network. Amen.

This morning I was driving to work and traffic backed up under a bridge.

My radio went dead!

I knew this must be the EMP attack JIMV warned me about!

"Thank God I'm safe under this bridge," I thought.

Then I looked around and the street light was still working, and cars started moving forward and I drove out from under the bridge expecting to be fried by EMP, but it was just that the Sirius can't get under bridges!*

* It didn't really happen that way. I mean, the radio part was true, but I didn't think it was really the EMP attack that we all know is the greatest threat right this moment to civilization. I was really just trying to imagine what it must be like to drive around in JIMV's world.

However, I will take some of JIMV's advice to heart and continue to get my Stereophile in paper version so I'll have something to read when some right wing nut militia member manages to light off an EMP here in America.

JIMV, if you can still read this despite the government watching every post you make while they consider charging you with thought crimes...be extra vigilant where you are, the right wing nuts tend to strike close to home. I.e. in the heartland!

Another Democrat driven government grab for power and money, and you aren't whining?

Never said Obama was not born in the USA...I just asked why he wouldn't prove it? I did note that it really didn't matter much as the left would never allow him to be removed for any reason under any circumstance...They proved that with Clinton...so why bother? he is in, lets get rid if him in 3 years...

Why are so many on the right so ready to ask for the rule of law to be overturned in their favor?

Where does this insane paranoia come from?

Could it be that these people actually believe what crazy men like Glen Beck, St. Sean of Hannity, Ann Coulter and Bill O'Really have to say?

Yeah, that Ann Coulter guy has one huge Adam's Apple!

Guys like JIMV, they are truly grasping at any straw they can to try to dehumanize the President.

They had to toe the line and keep their yaps shut while Chimp tried to do us in, so there's alot of pent up adolescent style angst they have to work through.

We really do need a pool to see who can come up with what their next stupid pranks will be.

After the birth certificate, tea bagging, carrying guns to Presidential speeches, congressional heckling for dollars, Palinesque stunt parenting, I am not imaginative enough to even presume to be able to think about where the next nut-burst will come from.

Glenn Beck cries and tells them, "Please, as legitimately angry as you are, please please please don't go out and do anything violent...wink wink."

I guess my pool entry would be an attempt to repeat that famous right wing activist's Timothy McVeigh's fine example.

If you look back at the last couple of decades, you'll notice it is the right wing of the world that is perpetrating all this senseless violence.

Oklahoma City - right winger.

9/11 - right wingers. You KNOW those nutjobs weren't liberals.

Embassy bombings, ship bombings, Lockerbie...the list of right wing atrocities is so obvious.

Time for people like JIMV, who openly support right wing hate that foments violence, to step back and try to make positive contributions...but you know they can't.

Hmmm, maybe next they'll blow up something on Wall Street because the market has been up up up for Obama.

Perhaps you should ask JIMV, I think. He seems to think otherwise, or perhaps he's confused as to the statehood of Hawaii.

It really would have been interesting to see what would have happened if he was elected, because in fact he was not born in the canal zone (Like McCain) or Hawaii (a recently established state) like Obama, but in the TERRITORY OF ARIZONA before it became a state.

But then, Barry's gone, Millicent's gone, and all we have left are the likes of ST. Hannity and Becccch.

There was a lot of misinformation, thanks to the Internet, about the man before the election. I did read his first boring autobiography as well as Obamanation. Somewhere in between those two books is about as good as your gonna get on the truth. I still view the man as a Cult of Personality. He needs to stay off the television so much. Call me KBK but I'm beginning to think things like starting an investigation on CIA agents and scrapping Poland and Chzeck Republic is his way of fighting dissent at home. "You fuck with my ideology and I'll start shit with the previous administration". The guy and his cabinet are in fact inexperienced, misguided, unrealistic, and pretty much fucking things up. Seriously, maybe somebody can list what he has accomplished this year? I'm a little biased and not noticing much in the way of progress. Most his plans result in made up lost revenue beyond his years in office. What's the point of making short term positive decisions before he leaves office? So, far we own some car companies that are no longer a going concern and the banks are spending our money as they see fit. There has got to be something out there that is good for everybody that he can take credit for. As for something bleak? What if the swine flu ends up killing more people than Katrina? Hell, the normal flu kills over 30k a year. Can you imagine how much heat he is going to get after what liberals did to the Bush administration. The press is going to slaughter him. Obama's first term is going to be nothing but payback time for the previous eight years of sedition.
